Dear all, I am a new user to this group as I have just moved to Sydney.
I am writting as I am trying to find a good supplier for photographic equipment in the sydney area. I am looking for a store big enough that they will hold stocks of brands such as; manfrotto, blad, canon, elinchrom etc...
Any help would be greatly appreciated, many thanks Adam Firth.
Unfortunately, there is no single store that will stock everything you want. For that you'll have to fly to new york and visit B&H :)
However, there are five shops in the City that stock decent amounts of Canon gear:
Foto Reisel on Kent St,
Fletcher's on Pitt St.
Paxtons at Wynyard (George St),
V&G on George St,
Ted's on Pitt St,
Of these, only Foto Reisel, Fletchers and V&G are actually "pro" shops and can sell 1 series bodies. Fletcher's is the larger store and stocks more Manfrotto gear, but Foto Reisel have Hasselblad and Leica gear, and also has friendlier and more helpful staff. V&G are... expensive.
For elinchrom, you can try either L&P at Artarmon or European Cameras in Drummoyne, though I think they're Bowens dealers.
Nikon on Broadway have a few things apart from Nikon equipment - mainly lowepro bags, I think.
I've probably left out lots of things, but I hope this helps.
dear adam
if you have trouble finding what you're looking for in sydney, perhaps try the internet. since moving to the middle of nowhere, i have delved into the exciting world of online shopping... and have managed to find everything i've wanted for less than retail prices: from my new canon pixma 760 scanner/printer, to something as simple as a 77mm lens cap.
at first it doesn't seem as satisfying as *real* shopping, but soon enough you'll be hooked :)
goodluck
