A GIRL of seven starved to death by her parents ate her own hair in a bid to stay alive.

Jessica Schmidt also ate pieces of the carpet in the darkened bedroom where she was kept prisoner.

She weighed just 21lb when she died. The family's well fed cat weighed 10lb.

The doctor who examined Jessica's body, Michael Tsokos, said: 'She died as a consequence of years of malnutrition. She was little more than a skeleton.

'She had nothing to eat and very little to drink for three months at least.

'Jessica lived in a room on the seventh floor with paper over the windows so light didn't enter.

'She was a prisoner and no one in her block of flats ever remembered seeing her. She would not have had the strength to cry, to speak, to bang on a wall for help.

'Her room had just a bed and a cupboard. There was not a single toy.'

Doctors found that Jessica had cut off some of her hair and eaten it.

Hair had caught in her intestines, causing her to vomit and choke. This was the final cause of death.

Jessica's mother Marlies Schmidt, 33, and stepfather Burkhard Moeller, 47, found her dead in her bed in Hamburg,Germany.

Police say the couple lived on social security and spent their money on alcohol and cigarettes.

Schmidt and Moeller are in jail awaiting trial for causing Jessica's death. They face up to 15 years behind bars.

Jessica was not registered with social services. Her natural father had not seen her for two years.

Life imprisonment is much cheaper than the death penalty, BiggyRat. and Gaol is spelled G-A-O-L.

Maybe they plan to give them the same treatment, give them minimul food and water in which case it WOULD be cheaper to keep them alive ;)

I wonder why people have children if they have no intention to love or care for them :(

It's un-imaginable that someone could treat someone so badly, let alone their own child. I hope they rot in jail.

Actually I believe Gaol is more of a British term. So as this is Australia I believe it's spelt J-A-I-L.
Oh, and while we're on the subject, spelled is supposed to be S-P-E-L-T.

Well according to the Oxford Australian Dictionary, both are acceptable. Under "gaol" it has the full definition, but under "jail" it just says jail = GAOL.

Just in case you wanted to get technical. :rolling:

But I really do feel sorry for the poor girl. No person (children especially) deserve to be treated like that. It makes me sick to think that there are people so horrible living in the world.

I think they should be put in jail (or Gaol) and experience what their daughter experienced. Isolation from anyone else, no food, water or anything to amuse themselves with. Just a small cell with a bed and a cupboard. No window. Nothing. See how long they last and how long it takes for them to go crazy in there.

it shouldnt be jail or gaol, it should be "Big house-like system where very bad people get to live while they think about what they've done"

btw, on the story :( very much of the not un badness :( (a triple negative so just a negative)
