View Full Version : IQ was installed this morning
I can say this IQ box is quite good. The features are very nice indeed.
The installer had to install a second point to run from the satellite dish
to the IQ box. I understand you only need one cable from the wall for
cable. He took about 90 mins to complete the installation. No complaints
about it from me.
Found a bug with it already. One of the SCART outputs does not adjust the
sound when you use the IQ remote to adjust the sound.
I had to run a manual update on the box as the "Foxtel PDR Setup" option in
the setup menu was still called "Foxtel + Setup" and the back button the
remote control did not work.
Since it was installed, the signal strength has increased, the picture
quality is slightly better, still some artefacts but better than before.
It's easy to use.
Not really seeing too much value in the $395, the $100 installation fee is
justified since a new point had to be installed. Would have been nice for
the $395 price tag to be a little less, but I suppose if it was cheaper,
every man and his dog would get one.
Thumbs up from me at this stage.

Probably the same thing as with the digital boxes - sound only adjusts
on the TV output, not the video one. Pretty sure it's intentional, I
guess the idea is that you usually want turn down/mute it when you're
watching, but for recording you want full sound (and no on-screen
menus).

That is exactly right.

That's because there isn't much. It should be $20, like getting a second
STU, especially as it's replacing an existing STU.

Is it? A standard installation is normally only $72 and it's more complex to
do than the PDR installation. You also get a dish (and installation of the
dish) and a new phone socket included in the price. Right now a new
subscriber can get a full installation including PDR installation for as
little as $36. In fact a new suscriber gets a full installation and first
month's Platinum subscription for $528.95. Your PDR installation and a
month's Platinum subscription costs $592.95, $64 more.

I'm sure Foxtel would see that as a bad thing but I don't see why.

Glad to see you're enjoying it. Have fun.

That's a good point. I thought of that but in the end, if you wanted to
adjust the volume and change channels on the PDR when outputting on the
video SCART, you need 2 remote controls at all times. Much more of a
hassle. But I see your point.
Further to my original post, the other thing that I have noticed is that the
changing of channels takes slightly longer. I guess it is just allowing the
PDR to reset itself so live pause can be used. Channel changing speed is
getting back to the old "Analogue" satellite service channel change speed.

I found that the back button does not work with the version of software that
is loaded by default. You need to perform the software download and this
will fix the back key.
This is the problem I had when they installed my box. I think the
technicians are not performing this as part of their install process. I was
told that the software download can take over 30min in some installations so
they don't do it to save time. The first box they installed would not
perform a software download and they ended up replacing it. The second box
has worked fine.

Is it connect to the phone?

It didn't really matter as 2 days after the install it did an automatic
download. I updated manually as I wanted the back button feature, in the
end it did it updated automatically.
