I've been using DVD Shrink (and other times Nero 6) and burning onto a SONY DRU 700A dual layer internal burner. The problem is..The discs will play in every other DVD player I have except my LG 4812W recorder ? I'm using DVD+R Discs. I have another DVD Burner as well and the LG won't play back any discs recorded on that either ?

Does anyone know why this is ?

How old's the LG and roughly how many discs have been through it since new?

I bought the player as an ex demo model a few weeks ago.It plays and records beautifully..it just won't play these particular DVD+R discs recorded on my other machines. It will play DVD+RW discs recorded using my other DVD recorder perfectly. When the DVD+R is put into the LG..it comes up with a message saying "Unknown disc, please check."Everything recorded on the LG works fine everywhere else ! A friend recorded a movie on a DVD-R [U]disc using DVD shrink at it worked on the LG..but I just don't understand why the DVD+R won't!!

Hi please ignore if this is silly....DVD+R discs need to be finalised before they will play in another machine. Check your other DVD recorder booklet om how to do this.

Hi

Thanks for the advice..and no this isn't silly at all.The disc was finalized and played beautifully in every other machine I tried it on but this one.Since this message, the machine has had a complete breakdown and refused to accept any disc.It has since been sent for repair. Many thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Hi

Now for the bad news maybe? My LG 4812w also broke down recently (Same Problem) I got the message from the shop on Monday they would have to replace the CD mechanism and laser....cost $300.00 for parts $125.00 labour

Ouch ....I asked if there had been any others and he said yes....but replaced under warranty mine ran out 1 month ago.

I am thinking about buying a Lite On for $300.00 from Strathfield Car Radios but want some extra warranty as well....

If you come up with a cheaper solution let me know. :)

You can purchase an extended warranty with these if you prefer, it covers whatever is covered by the manufacturer, $29 for an extra 12 months, you can get longer warranty if you want but I think you would find that upgrading after 2 years will be quite cheap anyway.

I have same machine it is very sensitive to rw+&- disks, only one that i have found that works is TDK -rw & not the ones in bulk pack, buy in singles from Megamart. Why this makes a difference i dont know.Had my LG[lowgrade] in to techs & they gave me this info.LG said they couldnt help with this issue & when pushed they hungup.Hugh
