Previously I have dealt with hacked firmwares for my old TEAC DV3000 like the OFFA (One Firmware For All) from Area 450 http://www.area450.com/index.html which allowed for the ability to bypass the copyright and FBI warning screens, ads, startups etc, I believe those warnings are called UOP.
Does anyone here know of any newer players available that allow for this feature?
Area 450 lists only OMNI SPL3000G, SHARP DV740X, Tevion MD40741 and 80120, along with a Wharfedale M5.
The site also mentions "Since early 2003, the company have switched from using ESS processor chipsets to MediaTek ones to power their DVD players, and thus far no firmware upgrades have ever been made available for the latter."
So I guess it would need to be an ESS type player with the associated limitations.

There are ESS players in the market, although not too many these days.

It's not exactly the same feature, but some current model machines do allow you to jump straight to the main title on the disc, bypassing all the PUOs (Prohibited User Operations) in the process. Most LG players (including the latest DF8900P) have this feature.
Some machines also allow you to fake your way past PUOs to varying extents, e.g. you may be able to press the TITLE button to go straight to the main menu or press PLAY repeatedly to flick past each copyright/warning screen.

Gee guys I admit it is a bit frustrating to be not be able to go straight to the menu, but really if you can't handle a minute or 2 out of your life such a bad thing. Use it to sink a little bit deeper into the couch, relax and before you know it that menu will be there. After all each set of adverts on TV goes on longer.

Thanx for the lesson in de-stessing dlite. Some of em go more for than 2 minutes, and if it kids dvd's that your putting in and getting going for them, you have to hang around until the disc is ready for you to play the movie.
I think I will look at the LG players probably the 8900.

If they stuck to the original plan and just had the copyright warning that could not be by-passed would be a lot more tolerable than the current trend of making you sit through ads as well, that's taking things too far.

Have to agree...
I just got the 5th season of Southpark, and now there's all these ads for other stuff Comedy Central does. Who cares? I can look that stuff up on the web if I need even more marketing material in my life.
All I want is to be able to go straight to the film...is that to much to ask?
(Not having a go at you dlite...I just get annoyed at this stuff, and I was very surprised when I saw these ads, as I bought the Southpark DVDs from Amazon)

Ok guys I have yet to hit any ads on DVD's I have bought, Ads should definitely be skippable and I would be contacting the department of fair trading, and the DVD producer etc, saying you will not be purchasing any more of their products that contain forced ads (they can put them on the menu).
Just my thoughts but unless people protest the problem will just get worse.
There you go I have just my opinion, copyright warnings are acceptable (though worthless), Ads should be banned full stop.

The ads (unskippable or otherwise) are mainly on rental release DVDs.
The 'skip to main movie' feature on the LGs is designed for just that purpose - bypass all the startup crap and begin playing the movie straight away. This is brilliant for parents that want to be able to maintain their sanity when kids won't wait for even one minute for the movie to start... :p
