I saw some guys on a cherry picker yesterday replacing the CDMA antennas
on the Telstra tower near Cadbuy's in Ringwood (Vic). I think someone in
the newsgroup once said that they're doing this because the new antennas
are mid range antennas. Why can't they simply use the exisitng antennas
but crank it down a bit? What's the purpose of the new antennas?

Probably replacing omnidirectional with directional

Or reducing the gain on the directional cells, my local BTS started off
with CDMA omnis, went directional then not so long ago replaced those
antennas with newer ones. Needless to say quite a lot of the local CDMA
gaps have been plugged by co-locating on T-GSM Microcells.
