Fact: Most people in Australia have a fixed line phone and have had for
years. That hasn't stopped people using payphones for voice calls.

Wrong. They are to coexist, not compete.

> Fact: SMS from a mobile is cheaper

Fact: Phone calls from your home phone have been always been cheaper than
payphones. That hasn't stopped the market for payphones.

Thanks for that completely superfluous proof
that you've never ever had a fucking clue.

Payphones are used BY THOSE WHO DONT HAVE MOBILE PHONES, FUCKWIT.

Even someone as stupid as you should have noticed that even tho
it costs 40c to make a local call on a payphone, compared with
25c or so on a landline, the pathetic povs use payphones.

Anyone with a clue can make a short call on their mobile
for a lot less the 40c it costs on a payphone too.

Wrong.

Near to where I live there's a bank of 4 Telstra payphones. Something
I'd noticed long before this thread was people standing there with
their mobile, looking up a number from their mobile then using the
payphone to make the call.

Yes, I'd say that 90% of those using the payphone had a mobile, but in
the end they were using the payphone NOT the mobile to place the call.

Big deal, irrelevant sample size

Most likely to be people on a tariff where the cost of the flagfall and 1st
30 secs > 40c.

A lot of people are on tariffs that are less than that

Exactly, you fuckwit.
So you have just ADMITTED that people who use mobiles dont use payphones,
thus invalidating all your previous "arguments"

fuckwit

telstra are more than happy to remove payphones due to increased mobile use

payphones dont make much money (a lot lose money)
mobiles is a money spinner
