A few days ago where were several postings asking if there were any DVD
recorders with digital tuner inbuilt. The only product which seemed to be
on the horizon was a Voxson which was promised but had no release date set.
Today I see in a Retravision catalogue they have advertised a what they call
a TEAC set top Box. It's supposed to be a personal recorder with a 120 GB
hard drive that allows record & playback at the same time. The astounding
thing is that the add implies that it has 2 Standard Definition DIGITAL
tuners inbuilt. I can't see anything about this on there web site.
Has anyone any details about this product?

Sure it wasn't a typo and they are talking about the Topfield? Check out
the Topfield anyway, awesome bit of kit.

those recordings into DVDs, adding features with the open source TAP

I think you will find that it is only a hard drive recorder without a DVD burner (like the Topfield).

If it's a typo then they have made a really big mistake because the add is
exactly as I stated.

The Model # is PVR-100T. Retravision didn't even know it had them in it's
catalogue & needless to say knows nothing about it..

I just saw the press release about this on the DBA website and it appears to be just a set top box, it does not have a DVD recorder built into it.

it is a pvr. not a set top box by itself. here are the blurbs..
-------------------------------
TEAC plan to release twin tuner PVR
TEAC are planning to release a twin tuner PVR (PVR-100T) with two SD tuners and a 120GB hard-disk.
TEAC's Fabian Lubanovic says, 'The twin tuners allows one program to be recorded while watching another. The other feature of the PVT-100T is that it not only allows for time shifting but the time-shifted program can also be saved (to the hard disk)."
The PVR-100T features SCART, S-Video, Component Out, digital audio outputs (both coaxial and optical) and a USB connection for software upgrade and MP3 playback.
Mr Lubanovic expects the recommended retail price to be $699 for an April 2005 release.
------------------------------
the price in the retravision catalogue is $799

May as well pay a little extra for a Topfield and be assured that you are getting a PVR that is reliable and pretty well bug free.

Analog tuner I presume? Hopefully it won't be too long before we see these
with built in SD digital tuners. HD may be many ppls preference, but the
storage will require big disks or smething like blue ray etc.

Still considerably higher than the Wintal (google for it or
www.wintal.com.au). Admittedly only an 80gig disk, but this still gives a
fair recording time.

Yeah the price is way too high, but at least it is heading in the right direction.
if it has dual digital tuners and a usb connection, that is.
1. the wintal has only a single tuner.
2. the opentel has a dual tuner( i think ), but doesnt have a usb output..
3. the topfield has dual tuner and usb but is waay too expensive..
correct me if i am wrong in any of this..
