The now next guide on ABC hasn't been running for 3 days (i am in Perth
also). I first noticed it Monday afternoon. Sent off an email to "Our" ABC
and so far no reply.

Anyone else responded to the ABC in Perth?

Advice.Reception@abc.net.au

Thank you for your email.

We have received no other reports regarding lack of 'Now & Next' information
on our digital broadcasts in Perth. Might I suggest a manual search for
frequency 226.5 MHz or switching the set top box off and then on again.
Also, it may be helpful to try a factory reset (see your manual for further
instructions).

If attempting the above does not resolve the problem could you provide some
answers to the following questions?
1) What is your suburb name and postcode?
2) What brand of set top box or digital television are you using?
3) Have you checked the problem with your friends or neighbours? If not,
please check with at least one other person in your area, if possible. This
helps to confirm the source of the problem.

The answers to these questions would help us greatly.

Yours sincerely,

Jo Lindsay

Ah, this is spectacularly like the response from an ISP's tech support
line..! You know how it goes:

YOU: "Hi ISP. My ADSL connection suddenly went dead for no reason. It was
working one second, now it is not."

ISP SUPPORT DUDE: "Reinstall your modem drivers. Reinstall your TCP/IP
stack. Reinstall Windows. Reformat your hard disk and reinstall everything.
Buy a new hard disk. Buy a new modem. If the above fails, we'll look into
it further."

Surely they have people at the ABC that understand that if you can see
their digital channel, then you should be receiving their now/next info -
after all, they're all broadcast on the SAME FREQUENCY!!!

Ah well. This:

....seems to be standard copy'n'paste. My email to them about the recurring
"white dots on top of frame" problem on ABC2 landed me the same response,
albeit 2 weeks after I emailed them. And when I turned on the channel an
hour or two later, what did I see? WHITE DOTS! (They've since fixed it. For
now.)

Same person I got a response from in Melbourne - along with a similar first
line of my email:

Yours:
We have received no other reports regarding lack of 'Now & Next'
information on our digital broadcasts in Perth.

Mine:
We have received no other reports regarding white dots appearing on
widescreen picture.

....which makes me wonder one thing. Why have a PR person handling these
sorts of enquiries, when the info would be far better handled by someone
with technical knowledge of the broadcaster who might actually be grateful
for the heads-up on a technical problem?

I wonder if you might not be better contacting Broadcast Australia
www.broadcastaustralia.com.au , who handle the actual broadcasting for
the ABC and SBS.
