View Full Version : Recording SD Tv Broadcast
I have a Panasonic DMR-E85H DVD video recorder and a Digtec HD STB. Is
there any way I can record the SD transmission from the free to air channels
from the STB - I cannot seem to find anyway to get the signal from the STB
to the DVD recorder. I have no problem recording from the Foxtel Pace box
through the RGB input to the DVD recorder and I get excellent results and
exactly in the format as broadcast by Foxtel which I believe is equivalent
to SD digital signal. Only problem is that 7 and 10 are only is 4:3
analogue signal through Foxtel., if I could record direct from the STB I
could get them in widescreen digital
I use the component video outputs from the Panasonic to my plasma TV and
this improves the Foxtel picture heaps compared with using S video direct
from the Pace box into the plasma.

I have a Panasonic DMR-E100H DVD/HD Recorder and a DGTEC 2000A HD STB
Your setup options should be identical to mine.
(You did not mention what HD STB model you have. The 2000A is different from
the 2000B)
Your HD-STB has RCA Audio and S-Video outputs.
Plug these to the DMR-E85H inputs and you can record direct from FTA
Digital.
If your Pace box is connected to the RGB input of the DVD Recorder then you
are using AV2 input on the E85H (SCART).
You also have AV4 input on ther rear or recorder.
AV4 has the following sockets
1 RCA Composite Video
2 RCA Audio Left
3 RCA Audio Right
4 S-Vidieo
Ignore the Comp Video and connect your HD-STB to sockets 2,3 and 4.
You may also need to select an option in the STB to send the signal to the
S-Video Output
I have a feeling that you have left some crucial information out of your
original post.

I just thought of something which might be your issue.
This is only applicable if you have a HDTV and your HD-STB feeds the TV HD
signals via the component outputs.
The STB cannot output HD and SD at the same time.
You have to select which one you want.
On the DGTEC DH-2000A:
On the rear of the unit is a "Display Modes Switch"
See page 4 & 5 of your operating instructions to set the switch to HD output
or SD output.
Enabling the YPbPr outputs disables the Composite and S-Video outputs.
Enabling the Composite and S-Video outputs disables the YPbPr outputs
I have never seen a HD STB that can output Componnt HD and S-Video at the
same time.
I decided to do a little research on this matter.
After visiting a million sites and downloading a million *.pdf, *.doc *jpg
files I have come to the conclusion that it is not possible for a HD STD to
output SD and HD signals simultaneously. There must be a technical reason
for this - but God only knows what that reason is.
All but two HD-STBs below have a physical switch on the back to select
between one or the other.
The other two boxes have the option in the 'on screen' menus
The Panasonic HD-T104A
The DGTEC DH-2000A
The DGTEC DG-50001
The HUMAX HD-7000
The LG LST4100P
The NEC NHD1000
The SONY DST-HD100
The TEAC DV-8000
The Toshiba HD-S23A
The Toshiba HD-25
The Toshiba HDDJ35
The Homecast HT5000
The IKUSI HDTD-200
The only STB that I could not confirm this with was the Strong SRTS400S/B.
ie - The rear panel does not have the display output switch but I could not
locate operating instructions to see whether it is a software setting.
Anyone have one to confirm?

Quick Fix:
Buy a cheap SD-STB to feed the DVD Recorder
