Very cool Wookie!

I have an NEC 6PG CRT projector, driven by a PC.

Screen size is 96" - I probably should have gone bigger.

If I can get some good pics I will post them.

beejay can u explain to me and the uninitiated about y you use a pc to drive the projector.I read the thread at the plaza but no one really said y u do it that way.Is there a large increase in screen resolution when using this sort of setup compared to a normal crt setup.

And yes size does matter :):)

Thats what they tell me anyway:p

Wookie,

When projecting such a big image every flaw in the picture shows up.

A standalone dvd player cannot produce enough lines to give a good image, unless you have a line doubler etc.

I hooked up the old player once via svideo and it was awful - there is just no comparison to a pc. Pity it is such a hassle to set up!

Hiya

From what I can gather is that you plug your video card into the projector just as you would into a monitor. Then, whatever resolution you use will be projected (up to the projectors limits anyway) This will then be way over PAL's 720x560-ish, hence the better resolution.

Hope I make sense

It seems that there a lot of people catching on to the CRT craze!

Wookie,

Yep,

That is how it works. Projector hooks up like a monitor.

Just plug into the vga slot and away you go.

I am currently playing with 1280 x 960 res I think. Will try higher when I get my new Radeon video card.

Here's a pic I put together this morning - running a video into my Sony D50

The part on the right is raw video into the projector, whereas the part on the left is via the PC - unfortunately I didn't pick up on the interference until I downloaded the image to the PC at work - the video cable was fairly long, running near some power cables and I'm still only using the onboard video of my PC - still to get a new PC that has an AGP slot for a decent card

The raw video is full off scan lines!!! this doesn't exist when it comes from the HTPC

Damn you people!
I'm looking for another car and I'm really trying not to give into the temptation of a CRT.
I've been reading the various Plaza threads and now I have to be tempted here on the site I moderate!

You are all banned!!!!!!

Just kidding. :p:D

Yeah,

I know we can be a little enthusiastic at times, but the image quality really does blow you away!

Some people that have been for a peek at my modest set up do not even own a dvd player but are now measuring up for a CRT!

Watcher,

CRT is pretty cheap when you look at it, with projectors going for $1500 and up, screens home made for $100 etc.

Buy a cheaper car and join us:cool:

Hi guys,
I bought my projector arround 6 month ago it's a Sanyo PLC-8800n multimedia projector. I took a bit of a chance and bought it ex-demo for AU$2000 from the states (with new 2000 hour lamp) and have not had a single problem with it.
Check out the pic, screen size 8ft X 5ft.
My room is only 12ft wide so this is the largest picture I can get in there but have tested in more space and still get a good picture at 13ft X 7ft.
Advertised specs are: Screen size = 40 to 400 inches. Max throw distance = 40ft
I run it from my dvd player with a 3m s-video cable.
anyway if you are considering buying one go for it cause if you have good sound to go with it's an excellent experiance.
