For the past few years I have had Teac's Set Top Box Model DV-B100. I have
had it back a couple of times to get the firemware reset. I have been
using the set on & off to send a signal to a SVHS machine so that I could
play back the occasional program in 16x9 ratio.

I always had a problem turning this unit on. I have never been able to turn
the machine on by using the remote control, not even once, but instead had
to resort to turning the REAR
power swith on & off before anything would happen.

I recently tried moving the set into another room that doesn't have an
outside antenna so the TV there has a very snowy picture. The thought being
that if the signal strength was strong enough we would get a better picture
in that room.

When I plugged it in the set & I turned the REAR power switch the power on &
off all that I got was a yellow light on the front called 'lock' to come on
for a few seconds before going off again. The user guide only says that
LOCK means that the selected channel is locked , nothing else, no clue is
given as to just what this means & how the lock is turned on again.

Any ideas as to how to fix this problem?

You sure it isnt just getting confused by the poor signal ?

No. I've since put it back into another room with a good signal & it's
still says it's locked.

Is it the parental lock? Try turning it on during the day when shows aren't
rated "MA" and check the menus to turn off the parental control.

Just a guess.

On the Teac STB website it says for this model

"If you experience other problems such as No Picture but Lock Light only,
you will need to load the RESET Software first. Once this is done, your
receiver should be up and running again. Now reload newer software as per
one the two options above."

http://stb.teac.com.au/ go into "downloads" at the bottom of the page.

My other thought was that maybe it's the parental lock. Is there anything in
the manual about that? Maybe there's a default PIN like 1234 or 0000?

I'm downloading it at the moment. Then all I will have to do is read the
instructions & see if I either have or can borrow the cable. As for any
parental lock the machine might have I can't find out since I can't get
anything up onto the screen because the machine won't go on.

Thanks for the help

I was thinking just point the remote at the box and hit 0000 or 1234 and see
if that unlocks it. (If the manual states a default PIN then use that).
