I understand that SD broadcasts are transmitted in MPEG2 & can be directly
recorded onto a PC'c hard drive which has a Digital tuner card installed.
It it also possible to record onto a PC directly from a set top box with the
possible addition of some sort of plug etc?

Thanks in advance

If you have the Topfield PVR yes, otherwise I'm unaware of any other STB
or PVR with something as useful as (shock, horror) a firewire out.
Cheers, Robert.

Some PVR's like the topfield have a USB out so you can copy it via usb port
There is a hack/instructions for copying recordings of Wintal PVR's onto your PC, but it involves removing the drive, loading special drivers, installing drive in your pc..etc.
lastly, you can plug your pvr into at pc capture card via the analog inputs and decode that way. (ie like how you would record your home movies or vhs tapes)
