my sons x box reports on screen that the controller has been disconnected and needs reconnecting
this happens every few minutes it asks you to re connect and press? a
the controller has in fact not been disconnected and as this was happening all the time I thought the controller
was broken
I bought a brand new replacement and the xbox still keeps reporting controller disconnected
any idea what's wrong?

I'd swear you're the brother I never had. I though it was funny, but also
thought "I'm such a jerk."

I"ve seen that happen quite a bit with non-Microsoft brand controllers. Are
you using the real deal controllers or some cheap crap?
