Can anyone advise me on the best size screen. The projector I am hoping to buy will be located 3.8m from the screen. Our seating position will be directly beneath the ceiling mounted projector. Would a 100 inch screen be the right size? Am i too close for that size screen?
As for projectors I have seen a demo on the Optoma H27 and Pansonc AE700. Price wise both are about the same. I felt the DLP Optoma was not sharp enough compared to the LCD Panasonic. Has anyone had that experience or is just me? At present after all the reading in this forum and elsewhere i am leaning towards the AE700.
Your opinions are much appreciated.

I'm considering a new projector (the current one is about 5 years old and not up to the standard of the new ones) and at the moment the ae700 is at the top of my list.
As for screen size and viewing distance, I've seen all sorts of recommended distances, but I generally sit at about twice the width of the screen away, sometimes a bit closer but you wouldn't want to go too much.
The other thing to consider is the height of the screen from the floor. I initially had mine a bit too high, and after a long movie I'd have a stiff neck. This will mainly depend on your seating and I don't know if there are any recommended heights.
:)
A great projector screen size calculator is located here http://www.projectorcentral.com/projection-calculator.cfm

Thanks for that. I didn't think about the hight factor. In fact i now need to change my original place as it would have been too high and was not possible to lower it.

I sit 4.3m back and have a 96" screen just perfect. Bought the Infocus 4805 Pj 6 months ago it gets rave reviews and still one of the biggest sellers world wide. I or any friends have ever seen any screendoor or any unwanted artifacts. Oh' it is DLP, has DVI and farouja chip as well. GO SEE FOR YOURSELF.

Hi Ozmoll, I have a Panny AE500E and I use a 110 inch 16/9 Image hi gain screen. and I sit about 2.5 screens back. Check out AVSforum.com as they have a section devoted to DIY screens that could save you some dough and some there report equal satisfaction to a bought screen.
What I like about the panny is the hi def images via set top box or computer. What I don't like is the 1 dead pixel that sits above the channel nine logo after 500 hours lamp time. You can't really notice it and you have to go looking for it. My next pj will be a hi def DLP. I'm really happy with the panny at 720P but when 1080P is released DLP here I come(money permitting ) The infocus is a nice unit but not true Hi def. No flames fellas I have seen the images and I can say it is a really nice PJ. Better blacks than mine but colour and sharpness I liked mine. I didn't see any rainbow effect from the Infocus but others report to see it.
Only my 2 cents and no insult to any intended.
