Hey guys. I am new here and I just thought I would let everyone interested know about the Camera Club I have started in Lidcombe, Sydney. It is open to anyone who is interetsed in photography, from total novices to seasoned pro's. Any camera be it a point and shoot or a top level SLR, film or digital or even vintage or classic in medium format or 35mm. All are welcome.

We are located at the Dooley's Club in the Sydney suburb of Lidcome, only a stones throw away from Olympic Park. We meet on the second Friday evening of every month at 7:30PM at the club.

If you are interested, contact me and I will give more info.

By the way, I am the president of the camera club.

My email is: trashman71 @ iinet.net.au (remove spaces)

hi,

i'm looking to buy an old slr for my boyfriend but am at a loss as to what to get. he's keen on the really old ones where you have to manually turn the knob to take the next shot. i've seen a few at cash converters, mostly nikon but am hesitant in buying it because of my uncertainty.

any ideas and tips appreciated.

You have to give us a better idea of what you want and how much you want to spend.

Cash Converters is probably the worst place to buy an SLR at the moment. The price on the Canon EOS3000n has just dropped and so you should be able to buy one for under $250 brand new with a 28-80 zoom. If Cash Converters are asking more than $150 for an autofocus camera like a Pentax MZ50 or Minolta 404si or Canon EOS 500 feel free to laugh at them.

I just sold an EOS300 quartz date on Ebay for just over $100. That is how low prices are on film gear.

Why not note down a few model numbers of what you have seen and get back to me at nikonf4@bigpond.com :)

My suggestion is have a look on eBay and see what is available. One of the best buys at the moment are cameras that use the M42 thread mount system of lenses. You can get a very good camera and a few lenses for less than $100. Some makes that use this mount are Pentax, Praktica, Yashica and Fujica. I personally have 2 Prakticas, 1 Yashica and a Fujica. Lenses for this system are very plentiful on eBay and can be bought for very little cost.

Also if you are in the Sydney area, there is a camera fair on at the end of this month (July). The date is the 24/7/05 at Ultimo Community Centre.

Any more information you need just email me at trashman71@iinet.net.au

Good luck in finding a camera for your boyfriend. He is a lucky man.
