Hi there,
I am new member here. Lately I bought a home theater system HT-DS900. It is a Samsung product. I have installed the speakers properly. They are all working fine. The problem is I cannot get "bite" in the sound. For example compare to my old Kenwood HiFi System, the Subwoofer of the home theater system does not give high bass. I cannot understand where I am going wrong. They have heaps of sound types. The manual is very basic doesnot give full information.
I emailed to SAMSUNG AUSTRALIA.. I doubt they have any clue.
Where I am going wrong? Did anyone experience the problem.
Please note all the speakers are working fine.
Thanks

And the chances are your Amp , has a total output of 80 watts [if your
lucky] shared between the lot.
Not the 600 watts your speakers are rated at.
5.1 systems cost big money, and in my view Samsung, don,t make an Amp
capable of 5.1
Even though it tells you it does.
But load up the volume, and watch it struggle, and distortion will also be
apparent.

I was of the same opinion as you regarding Samsung. A guest of the newsgroup Jako made me aware of what looks like a decent (untested) Samsung receiver. Check out link below for the yet to be released Samsung AV-R3000

Thanks for the link, Interesting site. I could not get your THX section to
work, and I had a look at the Test review page and could find nothing on
Samsung.
Interestingly enough, they show the Sherbourn 7/2100 7-Channel Amplifier,
and list the price at only $ 2850. unyet the quoted price in Australia is
$4700. So they must be quoting US dollars. But what an Amp, the bloody
thing is massive, as is the power drain, they recommend that you use two
separate power supplies to power the thing and it produces 150watts x 7
channels, with plenty of power to spare. It weighs in at 52 kilo's and
really I would like to see wheels at the back , like the big Rotel.
But that's the difference between quality, and the unit our friend was
talking about. Rule of Thumb with any amp, Pick the thing up, if it weighs
a ton, it's good. If it weighs bugger all, leave it alone.
A while ago Sansui, started to produce there stuff in China, and ended the
Japanese production. And while I have some Japanese produced Sansui
AU-777a, AU-D33, and a TU-S33 [the good Tuner] I would not touch the
Chinese stuff, Put simply it's crap. And sadly I suspect that Samsung
has gone the same way.
I did notice that they review the Rotel RCD-1072 CD player, but not the
RCD-02 which does have HDCD capability and would be the best CD player
Rotel have produced so far, I know I have one.

I don't wish to sound too harsh.BUT these types of systems are not even entry level for "half decent" surround sound.
You need to start with a good AMP. Min.$750-1200.
5 good small bookshelf speakers maybe $500-$600
small but quality sub $500
Then you will achieve a good entry level system, you can always upgrade to better speakers later on
Cheers.

Thank you Sir , your link now does indeed work.
Looks interesting, but I,m scepticial about the output claimed, 250 watts
over 7 channels in a lot of output, 1750watts, and when you consider it
only ways 32 kilo's, [70 pounds] Just how big are the Torridial transformers
[all 7 of them] plus the racks of cap's, I see the spec's don't give a size.
and with a price of only $5000.
Then it tells us that it drove a set of B&W Nautilus series speakers,
That could mean anything from small bookshelves to the massave 800 series.
Like all things , time will judge it.
