My opinion after first hand experience with the 42" HD and the 50" HD
(actually setting them up and retailing them) is that they are
overpriced shit.
1. I find the image quality leaves alot to be desired, even using DVI
on any of the HD channels the image is poor, there appears to be fair
amount of what appears to be some sort of digital noise or some weird
effect on objects, i've noticed it on both plasmas.
2. The ambilights have this annoying buzz.
3. The image on dvds and on DTV is always off centre, in 720p it
worse.
4. Menu system is annoying and fiddly.
5. Easily burn.

Are you sure about these faults,as i was seriously considering buying one of these Plasmas. How many did you look at?
What 42 cm Plasma do you recommend?
Is NEC any good ?
Cheers Thornton.

I've experienced the opposite with my Philips 50" HD.
Picture is awesome, like looking in to a mirror. Ambilight is one of the
coolest effects ever (try watching LOTR with it on, bloody brilliant!) Menu
is intuitive, if a little long-winded, but I wouldn't call it fiddly and
once set up I rarely use it.
Not sure about burn, I'm very careful to treat it right.

Absolutely positive, on both the 42" & 50"
The major annoyances was the picture on both models was off centre,
which drove me nuts trying to correct it.
I love the NEC's, the SD model NEC is one of the nicest SD unit's i've
seen. Interestingly it has RGBHV BNC inputs on the side.

Some advice if you have a friend who works in a store where the staff
are entitled to cost price, then get them to buy it.
Ie the NEC SD unit was about $4499, i can get it for about $3300
The LG SD unit which is now selling for $2999, my price if $2600
Richter PM-401's with the Krakatoa sub, rrp $2798, i'm paying $1000

I'm just not too impressed with them myself.
Out of curiousity what STB are you using?
