Have been looking at buying the Denon 3805 for a while now. In my last
couple of trips to Singapore I have noticed the price drop down to
about $1400 Sing ($1100 AUD) yet here in Aus the price is still $2499.
What is the best price I can expect to get it in Melbourne for? (I
have seen $2100 quoted)
I would prefer to buy it locally but the gap is hard to accept.
I believe they are exactly the same box with a different power cord.
Am I missing something ?

I bought one whilst holidaying in Singapore a year ago for about S$1520 (this includes their 3% GST which can be claimed back from the airport if you are a traveller there). It works fine, all I have to do is change the power cord with an Australian one. Singapore uses 230V AC.

I am guessing insured shipping for an unit that size (gross weight: 20kg) will be at least a couple of hundred dollars? On top of that, you have to pay 15% tax (5% customs and 10% GST) when it goes through custom. Bear in mind that this tax is on both the combined totals of the unit and the shipping costs.

I bought it from a Singapore distributor who is both an importer and exporter. They will ship to Australia as well. The receiver is listed as S$1799 on their website. The price is higher than their store price, probably to compensate for the extra handling? I don't believe shipping is included. Check out their website on the following URL if you are interested:

Let us know how you go.

Hi there

Tuner frequency is the same as that of Australia (same as Perth anyway). I used the auto tuning setup and it automatically tuned to all the local FM and AM channels locally in Perth.

I'm looking at either a DENON 3805 or 2805 and wanted to know where
(which store and sales person) you got your deals.

And Peter, how did you go?

Thanks
