Hi
I'm pretty new to home-cinema, and have only been investigating options for
about a week.
I've narrowed down purchase options to the following:
Hitachi PJ-TX100 (1200 Lumens XGA Resolution) ($2700 + carry case)
Sony VPL-CX70 (2000 LUMENS XGA RESOLUTION) ($2500)
I am keen to get a quality picture for home use but the projector needs to
be adequate for daytime presentations as well, some of which may be in well
lit rooms. (ie rooms with no blinds or curtains)
I would appreciate any feedback as to which to choose, particularly from
those familiar with either or both products.
Thanks
David

I wouldn't say that. I've had plenty of 4:3 data projectors that made
fine HT projectors.
Look for a projector that has a 16:9 mode and the right mix of inputs.
Most of the newer data projectors are quiet and have good
contrast/brightness.

At the very least, make sure you demo them with dvd because there is a stark
difference between a sony data projector and a panasonic home theatre unit.

I have the Hitachi PJ-TX100... it's a very nice projector and I project on a
screen of about 100 inches.. I use it for all my TV and movies.. and the
extra bonux with the hitachi is the lamp is a lot cheaper than with other
projectors (around $300 instead of around $650)
As far as brightness is concerned.. the hitachi is great in a dark to
semi-lit room.. I DO, however, find that during the daytime a good quality
picture is hard to achieve... as in my case i have vertical blinds (not
heavy curtains) and my apartment faces East-West so the sun seems to always
find a way in.. these are important things to note!
I've seen many large TVs, etc .. but I've never been unhappy about my
purchase, as such a large screen for that price is unachievable by any other
method.. and the quality is nice..
Problems are the usual for LCD projectors.. contrast is... OK.... there is a
function which allows the iris to be narrowed with the hitachi thus
achieving a fairly good contrast when in a dark room.. but very dark movies
are not so good on an LCD projector .. Also there's the screendoor effect..
the panasonic projectors prevent this by basically blurring all the pixels
together to make is looks smooth but can end up looking washed out (my
friend has an AE500).. the hitachi has a sharp picture and if you go up
close it's like looking at a magazine up close.. every pixel is obvious ..
but from normal viewing distance undistinguishable..
ooer, I didn't mean to make such a long post.. if you need any other
first-hand advice.. let me know! (remove NOSPAM from email addy btw)
also, don't know if you've done this already but check pricejapan.com ..
that's where I got mine from and the only part of the projector not in
english is the manual (even the remote is in english) - manual downloadable
from pricejapan AFAIK
HTH,

sorry, I feel the necessity to advertise for this place as the service I
received was very good.. and the price was great...
They have it advertised for AUST$1731 (note you also have to pay GST on
coming into australia but it's still a good buy)
