View Full Version : TV Digital Set top boxes
Hello all,
I have recently acquired a really good second-hand 80 Sony Pure Flat Screen
TV. Although, it is not a Widescreen TV but it is a top Sony ES series ( 100
Hz, 1250 DRC etc )and it produces really great pictures. I am thinking of
getting a Set top box for my TV and wondering what brand should I look for
and what features, functions and apart from branding; what determines the
price differences. All I know about digital set top box is that it receives
and decodes digital signal which inturns provide better pictures

Dean

You should look at getting a digital PVR so you can record in digital and pause & rewind live TV. You can get these from the low $300's to around $1,000 depending on the features. Under $500 they seem to vary in quality with the cheaper ones not neccesarily being worse than those closer to $500. I've had a KAON PVR for $460 that isn't as good as my Wintal for $349.
That said, if you have more to spend, most people recommend the Topfield, which goes for $800 - $1,000. It has two tuners and is more connectivity features amongst other things.
