Hi

I looking at purchasing a Sony Widescreen Trinitron Wega TV Model KVSA28M36 and I was hoping if someone knows if Foxtel supports the Picture in Picture function on this TV so that I can watch two foxtel channels at the same time.

Also with Picture and Picture can you watch a DVD and also have a TV channel playing or does it have to be two TV channels?

I look forward to hearing from anyone on this matter.

Cheers

Picture in Picture works with two AV inputs or channels tuned in through the television itself.
For instance the foxtel box is an AV input (the pay-tv stations are not tuned into the tv), so if you have two decoder boxes set to the same TV, then you can have picture in picture.
Otherwise you can have a combination of 2 TV channels, foxtel channel and TV channel, game console and tv channel, Foxtel and game console etc.
:)

Hi Linton

The Sony TV has a 2 Tuner Picture in Picture function, so I guess that I would not need two Foxtel decoder boxes.

Do you know if I can watch a DVD and also watch a TV/Foxtel channel at the same time?

You can do that on my TV. I can watch a DVD/play Nintendo/open camera files etc. at the same time as watching a TV channel, and the other way around.

You will need two foxtel boxes as the channels are coming straight from the decoder box, not the built in tuner of the tv.
You select the channel on the Foxtel decoder box, and it puts that 1 channel signal out to the TV via the AV input.

The 'Two Tuner' funtion means that it has two tuners for tv/AV, meaning it can recieve two TV (free-to-air) stations or AV signals at once to display on the one screen.

You will be able to watch a DVD and foxtel at the same time though.

Hi Linton

Sorry to keep asking these questions but I am getting myself completely confused now - it's not through your explainations I can assure you - I am just having a brain drain at the moment.

I realise that I won't be able to watch two foxtel channels at the same time( i will not be getting two foxtel boxes) but my final (yes final!) question is can I watch Foxtel and one free to air channel at the same time using PIP.

I look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your patience.

Regards

Kana

To keep it simple, Yes.

A bit more of an explaination is that the foxtel box is on an AV channel of the tv, just like plugging in a game console, dvd player, VCR etc.

You will be able to watch any of the following combinations with the PIP function:

2 Free to air channels (FTA),
Game console and a FTA channel,
Foxtel and game console,
VCR and Foxtel,
Foxtel and FTA,
DVD and Foxtel,
DVD and Game console,
Game console and VCR,

the combinations go on and on and on.
(just not Foxtel and Foxtel without an extra decoder box) :)

Why you're so excited about PIP I do not know!

It's bloody handy if you've got a game on the PS2 on the go and are switching over to it in the ads. :D

So, I'm not the only one then! :p
It's also good for when you want to watch something, but also want to keep an eye on the cricket or footy. :dD
