Noticed that this is due for a mid-June release as an 8 DVD set (region 4).
I am not familiar with this TV show. Can anyone recommend it?

Personally I love the series. If you can get your hands on the movie then I suggest you watch that as that is the first 3 episodes. I've seen it listed for $189. I'm going to shop around a bit before ordering it.

Seriously love this one. I watched it religiously as a kid - straight home after school to my grandmother's place for the Afternoon Show with James Valentine (damn that guy's funny!) and my regular dose of Monkey Magic and Battlestar Galactica!
I would buy it, but i hesitate to recommend it to someone who's never seen it. You see, the value to me would be reliving the excitement, whereas if you've never seen it before it might be relatively lacklustre compared to modern fare. I suggest you try and watch a couple of episodes before buying (hire it, borrow it, etc). OTOH if you like retro sci-fi this is a must-buy. Excellent characters, good acting, brilliant sound effects work and great models. The evil bad guys character designs are awesome and original as well.
Hope that helps! Happy watching!

Thanks for the advice, guys. I'll try to watch some episodes before deciding whether or not to buy it.
I think it is a mono release too which disappoints me and puts me off.....check it out first if sound quality is important to you.

Ahhhhh Battlestar Galactica...what a show that has it all
Rick Springfield
Starbuck...the Faceman from the A Team
People flying all over the place when attacked worse than Star Trek
It was crap when they returned to Earth

Battlestar was a good show! As for Rick Springfield he is in it a whole 2 minutes. If you like space programs why not try Babylon 5. A lot more interesting.

Yes I agree. Was good, but somewhat dated. At least it proved that something besides Startrek could work for network show.Lorne Greene was the Captain.
Babylon 5 was better. But unfortunately the Captain and some other characters changed later in the show. The show was going somewhere up until the last few episodes.I think the writer switched pages on us or something!Regardless, I definately recommend it over Battlestar!
