You are the only one I've heard of in my life.

It's a very plausible name, nothing wrong with
it, just not known about it before. Just not
the "John", "Mark", or "Michael" of names,
really.

You've never heard of the band "the seekers"? There was an Athol
Guy in the seekers...

Never heard of Blair Athol?

The spelling with an o is the Scottish variant. The english
spelling is Athel.

Since we're all here discussing your name, how exactly do *you*
pronounce it?

1) Sounds like "apple", but replace the double P with "th"
(the way I say it in my head)

2) as above, but emphasis on the A, like "ay - thle"

3) "ay - thol", sounds like "ay - pole"

Hope that made some sort of sense.

You must be a young fella then.
Any Aussie of a decent age would know who Athol Guy is, a member of the
Seekers and former MP.

This is the closest one. Ath like in math (or someone with a
lithp saying mass :-p), followed by an l sound similar to in
"that'll" - the o is essentially silent to a slight u sound
although that's mostly due to poor diction. :-)

Of course yours is commoner. It's the english name, as opposed to the
more noble Scottish spelling. :-p
