NOT OT at all....because it's about the LAW, and the LAW is what
drivers get to cope with all day every day. It's not enough to drive
safely and courteously - one must Obey the Laws - all of them, all of
the time.

Yeah -here's one for Neil - been meaning to get round to replying to
his last explanation for shite laws anyway.
This is the 'laws are always enacted with good intention' game
over-played as usual.
And the reason we have so many laws.

What have we here?
Some utter fuckwit putting up a proposal for a law, and the rest of
the utter fuckwits terrified of <gasp> 'organised' electoral backlash
that they go along with it.

The reason for 'that' being the real game in town is because laws can
be usually be got up because they don't experience any organised
opposition.... needless to say when the God botherers get involved,
the game changes. Organised is the key word.
And this is just the start. Gb's have one seat they admit to. Unlike
the previous situation with DLP, Harradine and similar.

For casual readers of tis thread and who may be wondering what the
hell I'm on about....and for those just a little interested in what
the hell is really going on in our name.
Pick any recent law - or any one you see as relevant to your
situation.
Find and download Foxit PDF reader (this neatly avoids using and
clogging up your computer with that disgusting Adobe thing)
Find it in the Legislation for your state, or austlii for that matter.
Download the entire act concerned, and the regulations.
Read it carefully.
Note how every little loose end is stitched up.
Note if you can the way that law is actually applied in your own
experience
Note that ministerial discretion and indeed departmental staff
discretion is ALWAYS added in.
Note that appears are restricted to certain circumstances.

Come back here and tell me if you find any law at all that looks
entirely on the level.
I'd be interested to see some examples, if any exist.

The commitee will pass the legislation if the article is correct.

Dr Nitschke rests on the very simple " to make laws for the peace, order
and good government of Australia".

Preventing australia being seen to encourage suicide OUTSIDE australia is
"good government".

I tend to agree with you Toby. The bit that really annoys me is that they
never go back and clean up the legislation, just patch and move to the next
patch.

The Queensland Criminal Code is from 1896 but the redraft and reprint list
is actually a separate volume because of the changes. Wayne Goss did Qld a
favour by replacing many of the old acts with new, clearer legislation.
Then the drafters came alone and started playing with them at the behest of
the politicians.

Last year there were 3 bills passed with to amend the Transport
Infrastructure Act 1994. The first to introduce some changes to Queensland
Transport related matters. The 2nd to correct some errors with the first
and previous amendments. The last to allow criminally incompetent train
drivers who had a train still proceeding at 100 km/h in a 60 km/h zone to
give evidence of their stupidty without retribution.

Qld parliment passed approximately 60 bills last year. Only one of these
represented a new act. The rest were amendments.

Cheers

Brett
