Just wondering if anyone has ever seen one of their old cars that they've
sold in the past on the road? Assuming of course you sold it to a complete
stranger who doesn't live or work in your vicinity. I think it would be
really strange.

I have another unrelated question. Is it impolite to haggle the price on a
car of someone whose deceased? Suppose you go to look at the car and ask
why they are selling it. The woman says it used to be her husband's before
he passed away. Do you then say "Sorry for your loss. So whats the lowest
you'll sell it for?" How do you respectfully bargain on the price?

My mechanic is always selling cars, even his wife's. One day she rang him to
say that she'd just seen her car drive past her work with someone in it she
didn't recognise. He'd sold it. These days she makes sure she doesn't leave
anything in the glove box just in case he drives it to work instead of his ute,
and some guy walks in who's looking to buy a car...

Sorry dude, all 3 of my previous cars. But then Perth is a smallish city....
and now I live in town of 14000 so I guess the last one doesn't count. All
*very* distinctive cars though.
One of them was a 240kW 1993 TX3 4WD, I was glad to see the 18 y/o guy
driving it 2 months later because the day I sold it to him I was *sure* he'd
be dead in a week.

I saw my old passat (heap of shit) with a big ding in the front guard, which
gave me pleasure,..I hated that thing,.. and 2 Vals,..one was still going
the other had hit a tree stump and was languishing in a paddock........such
is life.

Irrelevant,...its still an asset. The only thing I have noticed is that some
prefer to sell the deceased estate in another location so they aren't
reminded of the dead person on seeing the vehicle...

I've seen a few of my old cars around, and have even bought a few back.

Makes no difference to me why they're selling it.

If someone has died that's sad, but I'm not going to pay more than I want to
because of it.

In fact you should pay less. People don't want the vehicle hanging around so
offer a really low prcie and get yourself a bargain.

Yep, had an yellow XB Fairmont that I saw twice over the other side of
Perth which I had traded on an XC GS Falcon.

Few years (and cars) later, I bought a P6 LTD, the dealer also owned a
wrecking yard whicih I visited, low and behold there was my XC GS,
written off.

You probably think having sex on a regular basis without a charge to
your credit card is strange.

If it's at their funeral, probably.

Nah, never use credit card as there's always a surcharge applied.

Offer to buy it at a reduced price by cutting out similar cars from the
trading post that are cheaper than hers/his. If that doesnt work promise
that you will repaint it so that she/ he will not recognise it while it
drives around reminding her/him of their lost spose. (not that you actually
would paint it but hey, its a bargain tool if ya want to use it.)

Possibly as weird as seeing the house I first "got on the job" in for sale
in the local paper a few weeks ago. Brought back memories allright.

I've seen my old Gemini a couple of times, but not in about a year or so. A
bit more memorable was seeing the 1979 VB Commodore my parents had when I
was a kid still getting around in 2002 - they'd traded it on a new VP SS in
1992. Talked to the owner and he reckoned it was the best car he'd ever
had. Considering the condition it was in at the time I'm guessing he was
coming off a very low base, but it was exceptionally reliable when my
parents had it. Was a bit sad to see it with badly faded paint and a broken
taillight considering how well my Dad keeps his cars.

I looked up the rego number on the RTA number plate availability checker for
a little while afterward to see if it was still around, but the plates
became available about a year ago, so I'm guessing it went to the great
carpark in the sky.
