Is it FWD?
It could have a 11tybillion kW V12 but it would be irrelevant.

In slippery conditions a FWD will beat a RWD but then I guess you don't need
so much power.

I think you made a typo didn't you?
There are no conditions where a FWD will beat a RWD if all other conditions
are the same

As an FWD owner I will disagree.
RWD has not got a monopoly on every driving aspect.
That is a little short sighted (or biased). :-P

Rubbish, in slippery conditions with a stripped out car the FWD gets the
power down much better because the engine weight is over the drive wheels.
When we paddock bash the FWD cars dominate. They get round they corners much
quicker also.

Hmmmm, now how the hell do you tape down a button on the
Avalon handbrake, when it's a foot brake and doesn't
have a button. Hmmmmmmm.

Ah, someone who knows how to drive a front wheeler :-) The foot handbrake
would be a real problem.

Gotta be a ratchet in there somewhere that can be held
open. :-)

With an ordinary driver a FWD will usually beat a RWD on an unsealed
surface. With a good driver a RWD should win.

But weight transfers to the rear upon takeoff, thereby leaving the drive
wheels with no traction. You'll spin the wheels a lot more easily with FWD.

Mine don't spin Neil. They actually give a little jump
and bite like crazy, then the 24v 3L spools up quite nicely.

Even in the slippery stuff, which was the original topic?

In the slippery stuff there isn't much weight transfer. We keep the track
pretty wet for safety reasons and the wetter it gets the more advantage the
fwds have. The acceleration isn't that much greater really, it more the
corning where they have the advantage.

The foot brake might even be an advantage then, still got 2 hands left for
the steering wheel and probably don't need to use the clutch.

There's really little point in a FWD vs. RWD argument.
The bottom line is that unless they use the older Aristo/Chaser/Tourer
chassis, they have no hope of stealing market from Falcodores.

Yup, I suppose the Grid II Bridgestones might have
something to do with it. Also that I went for the
215/60R/15 didn't seem to hurt. Oh, and together with
the lack of toein and - camber. :-)

We have the new Avalon here in the states now. I generally like the car but
ithas a few things that will take some time to get used to. The new 3.5 is
powerful and very smooth and the 5 speed auto works flawlessly. It is
still fwd. It does not have ignition or door key . just walk to the car
with the fob in your pocket get in and push the starter button and drive
away. I feel the car is very able to handle and normal driving situation.
