View Full Version : Old Mercedes knock off SsangYong Chairman CM600S
My grampa has one of them musso 4wd's with the merc 5 cylinder Diesel engine
and driveline. Well he blew it up the other day, $25,000 for a new engine.
Fuckin piece of shit either way. Con rids bent pistons need replacing, head
is wrecked. This happened pretty suddenly driving on the highway. Actually
seems like the cheap chinese/korean made body was built to last longer then
the mercedes diesel engine.
Anyway i offered my Grampa who has more money then sense to just get a
toyota and be done with it.

Any company that can create a reliable 2 litre NA engine that puts out 250HP
in stock form gets my respect. Which is what honda have done.
Toyota get more respect for creating a 1.6litre engine that is capable of
240HP in NA form!!

There was nothing actually wrong with Honda's "mechanical" approach, and
theirs were a *lot* more reliable than Mazda's Electric/hydraulic" system.
4ws was simply a gimmick that didn't catch on....

Depends on what you consider a "lemon".
They haven't made anything that was mechanically bad, but they've made some
fucking terrible designs. The "Concerto" springs to mind here (what the fuck
was that all about anyway?), and the last few Preludes have been as ugly as
sin.

I guess it wouldn't be a good idea to bring up the HR-V then...

What's wrong with them?
The one on my sons 89 Prelude is trouble free and the 4WS makes the
thing a dream to park.

they're a bit on the unnecessary side.
honda were too keen back then to prove their engineering skills and
forgot to deliver value in their cars to customers - i.e. stuff they
need.

True, but it does what its supposed to do and has never given trouble.
Takes a bit of getting used to, first time I drive it I almost ended up
on top of a roundabout, the car turned into the corner a lot more than I
expected.

The 2 Preludes my son has owned are very well equipped, I can't think of
anything they need that they haven't already got.

That sounds like bullshit. You can buy the dualcab version of the Musso
brand new for $27k.
