Just a question about the oil pressure in my holden 308. Thing is the
pressure has dropped at 2000rpm and above. The specs were 40psi at
2000rpm which it never had a problem doing, but now its dropped to
around 38 and gets lower as i rev the car higher. But the bit i dont
get is the pressure is higher at idle by around 10psi. Its never been
this high at idle. I dont have the idle speed up so thats not causing
it. So what could cause lower pressure at higher revs but higher
pressure at idle? Ive experianced low pressure at both ends before
and was a blocked pickup but never has it done this.
So could it be the pickup again? Or what are the symptoms of a
blocked filter or pressure relief valve?
cheers
James

Could be the pressure relief valve is sticking at idle,..but I'be more
swayed the electric sender has become worn. The same thing happened on my
Ford V8,..wierd readings....changed the sender and OK again.

sorry forgot to mention i have a mechanical aftermarket gauge . Ive
just pulled the pump off the engine, but how flippin hard should it
be to get the relief valve out? I have undone the bolt and the
spring came out but for the life of me the valve is not coming out.
Ive been holding it upside down and hitting the pump section to try
and get it out, and genty tried to pry it with a screw driver.
Im pretty sure it didnt fall out without me noticing.

There's the answer,..perhaps. As you probably realise, its supposed to be a
non-interference fit.
