Hi guys,
I just bought a Hyundai Getz on Saturday. The car is 13.9K + on roads
with a $1K petrol discount. I asked for alloy wheels (same size) + car
mats/headlight/bonnet protectors. In the contract the alloys are for
$1.1K (for 14"). The total bill comes up to $17.1K which I managed to
get down to $16K.
Somehow, I just felt that I might not have gotten a good deal,
especially on the alloys.
I already paid the deposit. The salemanager verbally told me that I
will go with one of the salesman to pick my alloys tomorrow. The
alloys will be up to the agreed amount, and I reckon that will be
$1.1K.
Do you think the deal is fair? If not, what options do I have? Can I
insist that I get 15"/16" (thereby necessitating tyres) alloys ?
thanks
Matthew

2.1k for on road/alloys/mats/headlight/bonnet protectors doesnt seem
too bad. 1.1k on alloys and 1k for the rest. I spose the mats and
stuff dont amount to much... depends what they include in "on road
costs" rego/dealer delivery etc
I imagine you could change to another size alloy but you would have to
pay for tyres.... maybe you can get something back on the tyres... or
sell them.
you got 1k petrol and knocked em down another 1.1k....
doesnt seem to bad on the face of it... you probably would have been
somewhat better off to just take the basic deal and do the rest
yourself.

That price is absurd. You can get a set of Honda 16" alloys for $950.

Actually no, it was actually $18+K, and I forgo the petrol in exchange
for a $1K discount.

Whenever you buy anything, you'll find it cheaper later. I'm sure if you
really wanted to save a few more dollars, you should wait for the mid year
sales. Oh, but then you might as well wait for the end-of-year madness as
each manufacturer subsidises their way into a top ten position. Oh, hang
on, if you wait a bit longer you'll get next years plate. Oops wait, a
little longer and they'll be discounting next years
plate..................if this sounds like fun you can do it forever!
"it's better to be occasionally cheated than PERPETUALLY SUSPICIOUS"
(quote from last years desk calender!). Thing is, it doesn't sound like
you've been cheated at all, just get on with enjoying the car.
PS - for a small little runabout, the Getz is actually pretty good, and
resale is a lot better with Hyundai than people seem to think.

Yeah, it's spelt Getz. :-))
Didn't some mag test all the korean cars and conclude that they were all
crap and you're much better off with a jap car if you want something small
and cheap. I know that's a bit vague but I think someone was talking about
it here.

I don't know, but personally I think the only difference between motoring
magazines and toilet paper is the pattern on the paper itself.
I bought my mum a new car around 12 months ago, and told her she could have
whatever she wanted within a 25 grand budget. She was free to pick whatever
she liked, as the only think I was doing was paying for it, and was
desperate to get her out of her 20 year old 323.
After a couple of days of test driving the Echo, Jazz, Sirion, Mazda 2,
Suzuki whatever (I can't remember it's name), and a few others, she chose
the Getz as the most comfortable and well equipped amongst that bunch. I
drove most of them as well and liked the Mazda 2 as being finished just a
little bit ncer and more stylish, but the Getz is certainly an excellent
little car for the money.
They're all much of a muchness in that bracket to be honest, but some were
close to 10 grand more expensive than the Getz for the same spec, and
neither of us could see or feel it.
