View Full Version : Pioneer DV-676A problems

My DV767A has a problem whereby I have alternate dark/light bands scrolling from right to left across the screen when viewing the output in interlaced mode (the screen being a Panasonic 76 cm PW200A). It's quite hard to describe, but basically there are maybe 5 parallel bands of light and dark, moving rapidly across the screen. You can follow each band across the screen in roughly 0.5 secs and it's just a constant ongoing thing, kind of like a spinning barber's sign. It is most obvious when you are looking at a black background.
So imagine looking at what is supposed to be a plain black screen (eg playing or pausing a DVD movie at the start of the film - pausing doesn't make it go away btw) - but what you are actually seeing is darker/lighter stripes moving rapidly from right to left. The problem seems to be getting worse, and is visible (albeit less dramatically) when viewing any scene... just clearer to see with black.
If I switch the output of the player to Progressive, the problem goes away. I don't get the same problem from my STB. It could be the TV I suppose, although the STB, connected to another one of the component inputs, does not exhibit the same problem. Maybe it's a cable issue?
I don't watch anything in progressive on this TV as the image is way too flickery for my eyes after a long day in front of the PC, so I need to get to the bottom of this.
Anyone got any ideas?
Cheers

Do you have fox digital, I noticed a degredation of picture quality while
watching a dvd with the set top box switched on, turning the stb off fixed
the problem.
You may have a similar interference problem.

Honestly dude keep it in progressive anyway, especially if it fixes the
problem.Progressive looks much nicer than Interlaced.
But as you said the flicker annoys you? that's a little bizarre? I
always found Interlaced has the noticeable flicker since its
effectively drawing two separate images....
When did this problem start?

what sort of connections are you using from the Pioneer to the TV?
I have same TV and an older pioneer 355 DVD player which is interlace only,
and picture is sensational via component leads.

I have a similar problem with my 676a however you only notice it when the aspect ratio of the movie is less than 16:9. A couple of lines go across the screen and change colour (green and purple) at the bottow of the screen. Doesn't bother me and I dont have a progressive tv to test whether it is eliminates the issue.
