View Full Version : Swordfish and other computer/net movies
Swordfish is a good movie. Unfortunately like all other computer/internet based movies. The screens are either always filled with big font green letters or some fancy graphics. The only thing is they are so far away from the real computer screen displays. The genuine hackers will agree with me.
This really makes me wonder. By the same token, are not all other movie scenes that containing high tech activities based on real world things like I expect to believe? eg, submarines, air plane cookpits ...:)

Have you watched the movie with the commentary on?
The director had to visualise the virus to show the audience what is happening without it then the movie would be boring. They had a specialist IT to set up the computer graphics in the movie and he had to make the virus into something that the audience can see, he knew that in the real world it doesn't look like the one in the movie. If movies didn't have any of this visual effects then there will be no movies like the Matrix, The Net, etc.

that movie was sooo crap... .as if some computer genius from back in 94 or whenever would know what anything now.....
In the movie it said that he hasnt touched a computer since then.... Oh yeh........... so realistic...... back then there wasnt even encryption... and now he is hacking 128bit incryption in 5 mins???
and its the first time he has touched a computer in 10 years????
Sounds like garbage to me.......... and then he uses his trojan horse that he created back in 83 to hack a banks security..... mate........ thats just like saying you havent driven a car since the 30s.... You see the latest lamborghini and jump straight in and can drive it faster than the best drivers now..... and then u decide to put in the turbo u used to use back then... (when there werent any turbos hehehehehehe)
rubbish...... absolute rubbish......

that's a silly comment, encryption software has been evolving for decades !!!
I find I enjoy movies more, if I dont attempt to pick them to pieces .
If you try hard enough, you can find plot holes in most movies - but whats the point, you're just effecting your own enjoyment levels !
Sit back and chill dude
I really enjoyed the audio on this movie, especially that 1st slow mo explosion scene. That is definetly being added to the demo list ....

I agree.... usually............ but this particular time i thought it was a little to crapper a story :) EHEHHEHEHEHEHEH.. I thought that Anti-Trust was much better ...... but as for effects and eye candy....... Swordfish was very good...... I did enjoy that part of it...
I guess its hard to not pick on it when u r in the industry......

Fair enough I suppose. I work in IT, and am involved in firewalls / encryption technology. Whenever I'm about to watch any movie that uses computer technology as part of the plot, I immediately try and ignore everything I know, and just go with it.
Especially if its an action movie :) .
Antitrust???? You've got to be kidding. I liked the whole idea of having a go at Bill Gates / Microsoft , but that movie became a farce towards the end. It started off being a psychological thriller type movie, and finished up as a b grade murder flick. I found it very, very disappointing . . . . (and that is even ignoring all the plot holes, to which there were many) !!!

I spend a little bit of time with firewalls.... but I dont know the first thing about them :) heehehehehehehehheh........ (hardware based that is).... we just have one of those watchgard firebox IIs that just sits there........ pre configured.... I would like to get access to it to open up a few ports ;)
But i spend more time on ISA and stuff................. routing etc etc...
