Finally Tested The Accusound 895 Pack

With the Bi-pol speakers, 895 fronts and 145 centre.

Very very impressed, listening to eagles when hell freezes over in DTS
I was smiling ear to ear, the 895 had a beautiful sound. Left the
Richters for dead, Accusound state though that the speakers need a 30hr
burn-in at medium volume with either pink noise or music with lots of
frequencies. The pack comes with the smaller DLC-145 centre speaker,
not the 165. The centre just feels like its lacking a little, cant put
my finger on it, but after running the speakers for a few hours that
might change. I might buy the 165 for a centre and just use the 145 as
a centre-rear since i'm running a 6.1 channel amplifier. The RRP is
$2499, but im paying cost for the speakers. :)

The accusound sw250 sub was very impressive, big and very heavy, i'll
definately be buying one of these next. Sub will cost me about $550 or
so.

The speakers are all finished in black and redwood, very nice looking.

Definately worth the money.

Well I take it you don't believe that car engines, ie don't need to be
run in. You just drive a brand new XR6 turbo off the dealer floor and
start thrashing it. Sorry know people who done that and well turbo's
blow quickly. Why do you think manufacturers recommend it?

Speakers are electromechanical devices they need to be run in aswell.

I've read the articles and write ups on the subject, i'm pretty much
convinced thats its true.

your references/studies/expermiments that support your statement - my
guess is you won't have any. Take a brand new speaker, measure the
driver's Thiele Small parameters then 'run it in' and measure the
Thiele Small parameters again. Oh if you don't know what the Thiele
Small parameters are and what they are used for go look them up and you
may be in a position to offer credible comments in the future.

WHAT,,, You mean I don't need to burn in my very expensive Hi-end
speaker cables and interconnects. Will I still need to switch everything on
, 2 hours before I want to use it, to allow the components to get up to
working temperature. **evil grin**

Don't start this crap here.We have had enough of this technonazi nonsense
with Phil Allison on Aus.hi-fi.If you can't hear the difference the don't
worry about it.If you are simply denying the difference cos you can't
measure it ,then get back to the lab and start working to advance the state
of the art in measurement technology so that it can be made at least a few
orders of magnitude closer in senssitivity to the human ear.

Read my post again, 'Fred at Home' stated that speaker's do not require
burn in. If 'Fred at Home' had done some simple research he/she would
have discovered that drivers do require 'burn in' to loosen the
suspension. Take a brand new driver and measure its resonance
frequency then after five to ten hours of play, measure it again and
you will find that it has decreased by as much as 15%. Now when you
are designing things like the enclosure for a speaker, values such as
resonant freq are very important.

Grab a copy of a speaker design book like Vance Dickason's "The loud
speaker design cookbook" or download one of the many software packages
for speaker design and you will see that changes to the drivers
parameters like resonant freq do have a significant effect on areas of
design like the required enclosure. Most speaker designers will 'break
in' a driver, measure its parameters and then design the enclosure and
crossover for the speaker. This means that until a new driver has been
broken in you will not get the freq response that the
speaker(driver+enclosure+crossover) was designed to deliver.

FRED,if the speaker drivers have been sitting on the shelf for a while,it would'nt hurt to "ease them in" before blasting them at high volumes and stretching the crap out of the cones and surrounds,now would it ?
