I, only occasionally, need to send an SMS but I find doing it from my
phone ponderous and inconvenient. I used to use WildMobile's
site...but that is gone.
Anyone know of any other site that offers a similar service?
Not looking for freebies, especially.

Please ignore any advice I offer...
if I was smart, I wouldn't be talking to you.

Who's your provider? I know vodafone have a Web2Txt system available for
all customers (and normal charges just go to your account).

Otherwise: http://www.thesmszone.com is good.

But as the web SMS are a "premium" service and not taken out of any
included call component.

http://www.net2mobile.com.au/

Works well. Save phone entries, etc. At the time I signed up it was
cheaper to SMS via it than Telstra's SMS service, which is why I opted
for it. Only limit is that you can send SMSes from it, but can't
receive. They go to your mobile, as that's the number your account is
linked to.

Even better was ICQ's SMS service. I could send and receive SMSs for
free to/from ICQ. But you were limited to x number of messages a day. 4
or 5, I think it was. It covered all 3 major networks. Then for whatever
reason, they all gradually pulled the service.

Why not use software? I use NotePage's NotePager Pro to send messages and it
works really great. They have a free trial at http://www.notepage.net

http://sms.ac BUT beware of their preset opt-ins. They are VERY
tricky!
