Just wanted to hear from people who are on this plan: Are they happy with
it, any complaints, what's the reception like etc.
Thanks.

Excellent plan, no complaints. I'm lucky to burn through the 500 bucks,
I never use the landline now :).

As for coverage, well that depends on your location. In metro areas it
has been flawless for me (Sydney/Brisbane).

Thinking of joining up too,
are international calls included?

Only on prepay, and it depends on the recharge amount.

$49 cap -> 20mins on international calls
$79 -> 1 hour
$149 -> 2 hours

be aware that it isnt really five hundred bucks free (for the post pay).

It's more like 500 less gst less the monthly cap.... ie. around $380 per
month to play with.

Great if you need GPRS. I have found GPRS reception patchy in areas of
Sydney (eg Gladesville)

And for prepay, some time allocated for international calls as well.

From recent experience, Vodafone still not as good outside of Sydney as
OPtus/Telstra...eg along Hume Highway to Melbourne.

No, Alx, *IT IS* $500 of calls...Calls are billed ex GST...eg call
rates are $0.267c per 30 seconds and messages are $0.22 each. You then
add 10% GST to them. Don't believe me ring Vodafone. Nearly all phone
companies give there there GST included price to the consumer, bill
EX-GST and on the front page GST is added...You pay for the first $79
of calls, then you get the next $421 FREE...Look at your bill next time
and STOP LYING!

Regards,
Scott

Thanks Scott, most helpful...someone took the bait...

.... let me quote from the 2 page leaflet from Vodafone setting out how the
"500" is calculated:

Am not in the habit of posting bullshit, and don't take kindly to be called
a LIAR in CAPS.

An apology and retraction would be nice :-)

It is not well-explained (intentional or otherwise) that on postpay, the
Super Cap credit amount INCLUDES the monthly cap charge...ie the amount on
calls/data etc is REDUCED by the postpay cap charge. Were you to "pay" the
$79 (inc. GST) at the nominal beginning of the month, and receive the exGST
value of $500 in calls etc, then the net effect is the same. I reiterate,
Vodafone do not explain this very clearly until you receive yoru first bill.
(...eheheh..I could be cynical about their advertising ...).

1) I said for "postpay", the below only applies to postpay.

2) VODAFONE state in black and white (ref doc # VDM0099A 02/05 "Please
Read This Before You Read Your Bill"...

a) $454.54 x 1.1 (GST) = $500

"..for this example we've shown the maximum you can use and still stay
within your Super Cap

b) $382.72 CR

"this is your Super Cap credit. This is calcuated by subtracting your Super
Cap charge from your total usage for the month."

Therefore... on POSTPAY, you have, ex-GST, $382.72 of calls and data etc to
play with, at least according to VODAFONE literature and billing
practises...Scott...do you have some kind of special arrangement with
Vodafone???

....and that yet again proves that asking general 'what's the coverage like'
questions means jack shit.

Well I see it DIFFRENTLY..You are not taking into account that ALL
CALLS are billed EX-GST..You get $454.54 x 1.1 (GST) = $500 of calls.
You pay for the first $79 and the rest is free till 500 (INCLDUES
GST)...So I get a MAX of $454.54 calls EX-GST before I has used the
CAP.

I quote "..for this example we've shown the maximum you can use and
still stay
within your Super Cap '

Since all advertised calls rates are INLC-GST, Vodafone and myself are
correct. When you are billed EVERYTHING is EX-GST...

This about it...

Scott

Well Scott, that's not how Vodafone bill it or report it on the website
"myvodafone view my bill etc etc"

...sorry!.

Have a great weekend!

Scoot and alx. This thread is about reception and not a long argument about how the cap is calculated.
I have found that vodafone reception in general is the same as optus in melbourne.
On mount hotham Vodafone used to be better when I was there 2 years ago and on the freeways as well.
I however have left vodaphone because I have a) found a better deal and b) it doesnt work in my house. I have a weired roof or something so when I was on vodafone I had to go outside to talk to people.

I would sugest you buy a $2 pack and give them a try and see what the reception is like where you live and would use the phone.

As Rod Speed would say...WRONG

Original message.........."what's the reception like.. ETC"

Understanding the basis of charging is somewhat useful information. Comments
about reception are largely anecdotal and, as someone else has stated, of
dubious value.

International SMS works fine unlimited though (up to you have used all
your cap, of course)

Exactly fuckwit, the freecall allowance is $500-$79=$421.

I hope you are not in business anywhere, in general it is illegal to
advertise prices ex-gst without making it clear it is ex-gst

> Since all advertised calls rates are INLC-GST, Vodafone and myself are

Load of shit arse crap.
Expect for charges not incurred in Aus, you are billed in INC-GST
Whether it is displayed ex-gst with GST added or just INC-GST, its still
including GST

Dodgy Vodafone dealer.
