I have just joined this site to find someone out there who could help me with some urgent info.
My daughter is going international for modelling and her new agents requested a short film of her before makeing all the arrangements.
I made a digital video and my father transferred it on to a DVD-RW. We played it back in his player as well as mine and it worked.
They finally received it today and the thing wont play. They said that they will play it on another machine at home to see if it works.
If it works great problem solved.
My question is if it doesn't does anyone out there know why and what we can do to make it play.
Please help me,
Chris

What brand of recorder was it done on? Not all recorders will make a standard compliant DVD, it could also be that the player they have will not play -RW media and it is just a read issue.

Are you sure it's not a +RW recording? Even less players support this format for playback. If the disc played in another standard DVD player than the recording format should be correct, in which case it may just be that the DVD player that they are using will not play back the type of disc that you have used, this is not uncommon.

 Thanks again for posting. I am positive it was a DVD-RW. Is there any info I could pass on to them to tell them what they could do about it. Should they just try as many DVD's as possible. My only concern it that this is one of the biggest modelling agencies in the world and i would persume they do this kind of thing often.
Because it took the post system so long to deliver this DVD i thought that it was lost in the mail so i did another on a DVD-R (cause thats all i had at the time) and sent if of a few days before they received this one. Do you think that as a last resort (time is of the essence) it may work for them.

A DVD-R is likely to offer better compatibilty, hopefully this will be all you need to resolve the issue.

It's also a possibility that the disk sent was in PAL and that the receiver's machine will only play NTSC.
DVD players sold in Australia are quite often multi-region/multi-standard so that we can play disks from all over the world. In the US however they tend to only have Region 1/NTSC machines. (if the world can't keep up to their standards, who cares?)
If the disk was going to the states I'd suggest you get it re-made by a professional company (even in a DVD recorder) with a proper standards converter. Check the Sydney yellow pages for "video duplication" or "video conversion".
Cache Ya,
Craig.

If NTSC source played back in a PAL system is something to refer to. It should still play back in black and white. (most of the time)
You could ask them what problem they have encountered. eg. 1) would the player read the disc? 2) does it have any output from the player? be it black and white with or without sound.

not aware of Phillips recorders using ''-'' format, but a '+' one time record disk should play back on any recent player as long as it was finalised and recorded in VM mode.
The monitor can be set to auto so as to grab NTSC or Pal....
Any group requesting a show real would have to be ready for most formats so something strange.
