Hello,

I refer to my previous post about viewing dvd's on overseas equipment.

because i sent an DVD-RW to montreal and it will not play on their equipment, they have asked me to email it. Does anyone know how this can be done. I have the image on digital video camera film and also now on a DVD-R.

This what they wrote," You could send me image of the dvd on my email and i should be able to see it. You have to send me an image... I don't know how to do it but i know its works."

Anyone know if its possible and if so how to do it. Unfortuantely i haven't even been able to try because my computer doesn't play dvd's but i could go somewhere if necessary.

The file would generally be too large to supply like that, particularly in DVD format, you may be able to convert a small sample to a compressed format such as AVI, DivX or similar which would be small enough to email. Of course there would still be a reliance on them having the necessary equipment to deal with this type of file.

Generally my rule of thumb with email and attachments is that if it is more than 5mg then it isn't for emailing. Though like with the company I work for, the maximum file size for attachments the mail server will accept is 2mg. I believe hotmail and the like limit attachments to 2mg also.

Perhaps you could ask them if they have an FTP server that you could send it to.

Thanks again,

the file wasn't as small as i thought 312mb and i tried to send it from a friends computer and had to ring a tech to help me stop the bloody thing.

I would like to thank everyone once again and when things pan out i will post and fill you in.

take care all

Chris

maybe using one of the international file sharing sites could be an option eg WinMx.
could even be grabbed straight from the drive.

Image could be a still picture (frame capture), saved as JPG format.
Person needs to have proper equipment to view the DVD, obviously due to the fact that PAL discs need PAL-compatible playback system. (There's only PAL or NTSC to choose from for making a DVD, so obviously one of these can play back on the client's system.)
