Has anyone done this successfully - downloaded the file from the Liteon site etc to their PC?

If so, can they help me? After selecting "Download" I get as far as inputting my S/N after selecting the correct XXX etc. pattern from the 5005's setup screen - then I install the RAR (or ZIP) file compression software - after that the "chinese" English instructions have me at a complete loss.

I cannot find how to actually download the new firmware code from the Liteon site. Clicking on "Commence CD 'burnning'" just produces images for saving or printing. Any suggestions?

Just hold off for the moment, there should be a new firmware very soon (next week hopefully if all goes well, currently being beta tested) there will be some new fixes that you will want.

Thanks for that - hopefully the "fix" contains clearer instructions on how to actually download the file(s) and burn the CD.

Roy.

I've done it many times and have found it very straightforward, can't recall what instructions they provided but when the new one becomes available I'll post details here and provide some easy to follow instructions, if you get stuck I'm sure I'll be able to help you through it.

Sounds good I'll wait to hear from you. The downloading procedure from the Liteon site simply left me hanging.

And whereas "treat me like a newbie" is most apt when we're talking DVD recorders - with computers, in my case, the first 40 years were the worst.

Cheers, Roy.

Hi again,

Sorry to be pushy but did you have any luck? I'm going overseas next Wed. June 8th for a couple of months (cricket watching) - not back until August 15th.

If I don't hear from you - will contact you when I'm back in Oz.

Thanks - Roy.

Lite-On have posted the new firmware on their website, let me know if you have any trouble doing the update.

I'll have a try tomorrow - but why do I get a sickening feeling that this is where I came in?

Roy.

Where is the new firmware? I've put my serial number on the website, and the file is exactly the same as the 4098 firmware I already have.

Is there a specific Liteon site that contains the new firmware?

Any help you can give would be appreciated.

How long ago did you get your player? The last delivery of the 5005 has the latest firmware installed already.

I bought the player over a month ago from Strathfield. I downloaded and installed the latest firmware from the Liteon site at the time.
You mentioned a new firmware being tested in May (based on the date of your posts), and the firmware I have (4098) was available before that, and that is the only one available on the Liteon site at the moment.

Looking through other forums, they don't seem to mention any firmware other than the 098 (number in front referring to the country region) being available.

Do you know what revision number the firmware you have been testing is? The name of the firmware file itself will give a clue.

I don't have the player here, it's at work, I'll need to check it next week.

You definately have outdated firmware then, there have been many improvements since then.

Jok11n, do you have any information on the new firmware? The Liteon site still only has the firmware that has been available for over a month. Just a filename would be great! Mine is LNFF4098.es5 - the file that gets put on the cd to update the drive.
When did Liteon send you this new firmware, and how can I be part of that email support? I've registered on their website, but that doesn't seem to get me on their email list.

I had the firmware for a few weeks before the original post, I would guess that they had just posted it around the same time, LNFF4098.ESU.0102.364 is the most recent, that is a system update, there is also a drive update which is LNFF1000.E30.0102.364 you should also be able to get this from the LiteOn site by now, there is also a tool available to change a few settings in the firmwares to give a 3 hour record mode and other wanted features :D , have a search for ilo hack if you want to find out more. There is no email update list either.

Thanks for the quick reply. Well, it seems I have the latest firmware, which has been available for some time, but I'm not aware of the drive update you mentioned - could it be that mine already has it? The only file that comes up on the Liteon site when I put in my serial number is the 4098 firmware file.
Oh yeah, I already know about the ilo hack program and have used it, and it's great - I use the 3 hour recording mode the most!

It's possible that you have the drive update already, although they normally reccomend doing the drive update after any system update (where appropriate) you can grab it from ftp.jokiin.com if you want to check it out.

Hey Jok11n, do you have the new 4101 firmware that's just been released? I've tried to get it from the Liteon site, but it says the file doesn't exist.
If anyone has a copy of it, could you post it somewhere for me (and possibly others) to get?
Thanks.
