Firstly, I have been lurking here for some time and would like to thank you all (well, most of you) for your inadvertent help. I'm almost ready to get serious and part with the bucks and would welcome some opinions. Sarcasm, being the highest form of wit, is also welcome!

What do you reckon.....

Rotel RSX-1056 AV Receiver
Whatmough Synergy 5.1 speaker system

and...
HAL CA1006 Auto Former with KP-1 controllers multizone distribution to 6 rooms..... speakers? I would love some in ceiling flush mounts but when listening to music I want crisp dry top end with kick arse subs. Anyone recommend something?

I really like listening to music. I'm a drummer and have been playing for over 30 years. I've taken good care of my hearing but occasionally suffer from mild tinnitus. I particularly like listening to Chemical Brothers / Prodigy and like it loud! Will the Whatmoughs cut it whilst not compromising the "Jap Attack" scene in Pearl Harbour?

Thanks!
...Reb

Hi Reb,
You must like some deep bass mate with the likes of chemical brothers and prodigy at the top of the play list.

The 1056/Synergy combo is definitely not a bad one, although the synergy setup is probably weaker than the 1056. As with everything it all comes down to how many of those hard earned bucks you want to part with. You could consider upgrading to the Whatmough Opus line. Personally I like the fuller sound of floorstanding speakers and am not a big fan of satellite systems except in small rooms.

I am a big fan of whatmough and have a Whatmough signature/performance surround speakers. As for in ceiling speakers I have never really auditioned any, but I understand that many reputable brands now have moved into the market and quality is much higher than before. Whatmough have an in ceiling range.

One possible alternative could be to get better front speakers and centre and use inceiling speakers as rears...

A few questions.. what cd/dvd player are you using and what city are you in so we can recommend stores for you.

Finally I have a pair of P31 floorstanding speakers and a Yamaha RXV1000 reciever for sale. (not as good as the rotel, but pretty good).
