<b>FOUR WEDDING & A FUNERAL
"will put a spring in your step, a skip in your heart and a smile on your face."</b>- Gene Shalit, THE TODAY SHOW.
<I>This is the story of 8 friends, 5 priests, 11 wedding dresses, 16 parents-on-law,
2000 champagne glasses and 2 people who belong together....perhaps!
Join heart-throb Hugh Grant, gorgeous Andie McDowell and Rowan "Mr Bean" Atkinson in the funniest romantic comedy ever and you'll fall in love again with FOUR WEDDINGS & A FUNERAL.</I>
<center><b>AUDIO/VISUAL</b></center>
Four Weddings & A Funeral has just the single Dolby Digital 2.0 soundtrack.
The rears and sub don't make a showing in this movie and the audio is well balanced between the main front three speakers. There is the very occasional, but only slight use of directional sound with the left and right main speakers.
Speech came across very clearly and there didn't appear to be any signs of trouble with it being in sync.
Unfortunately, this movie is presented with an aspect of 1.33:1 full screen. So don't get your hopes up when you see the opening credits sequence in widescreen. It changes as soon as the actual movie starts and stays as 1.33:1 that way until the end.
As far as picture quality goes, it's not too bad at all.
Colours are fine and could be described as bold at times with blacks also being fine and shadow detail being acceptable. The transfer isn't free from very fine specs or marks, but they are few and far between and don't take anything away from the enjoyment of this movie.
Very, very fine grain can be seen at times, but this also doesn't really cause any concerns.
If people can get over the fact that the movie isn't in widescreen, the visual side of things should please most.
The layer change was spotted at 98.08 and was a very slight pause on a shot of Hugh Grant as the scene changed to the next.
<center><B>EXTRA FEATURES</b></center>
Production Feature (11.08 mins) -
Shown in full screen and consists of clips from the movie, some behind the scenes stuff as well as major cast and crew speaking on camera about the movie, their roles ect...
The audio is very odd. The voices of the cast, crew and audio from the movie clips all come from the left speaker only and the voice over only comes from the right speaker.
Having said that, it's still worth a look though.
Behind the Scenes (9.38 mins) -
Shown in full screen and is video of the filming of many various scenes in the movie. There is audio from what is being filmed, but no commentary/narration is provided.
Theatrical Trailer (30 seconds) -
Nothing too flash, shown in full screen and is over pretty quickly.
<center><B>OVERALL</b></center>
Four Weddings & A Funeral is a wonderful movie with Hugh Grant doing a superb job in his starring role and is backed up very well by and quality supporting cast.
Although the movie has been around for years and the DVD has been out for some time now, I still hadn't seen this movie until Magna Pacific gave me the opportunity to review the region 4 DVD version, and now I'm glad I did. It's a very enjoyable movie and although the DVD is in full screen and could have done with a 5.1 audio track to accompany the wonderful score, I'd still recommend it.
Four Weddings & A Funeral has a RRP of $34.95 and is out now.
