Anyone has a dvd unit that upscales to 1080?

if so, whats your verdict?

thanks.

There are a few chipsets that will support this function, not sure which one this uses though. I have a few players that upscale to 1080 and the results with the right monitor can be very impressive, some of the ones that I have do not do the lower resolutions that well though.

According to their FAQs, Amlogic 3428 chipset (have you seen this one?)
Also, what do you mean by "do not do the lower resolutions that well"?
Is the standard 720x576i not very good?, or playback of lower res files not good?

Amlogic is actually the one that suffers the most from the low res problem, 576i actually looks worse than your average DVD player, 720p looks a bit better than average, 1080i looks great with the right monitor, if you don't have a monitor that supports this though they are a bit of a waste, I think the Sigma Designs chipsets give better results at the lower resolutions at the moment, Amlogic have been working on it for quite some time but have yet to resolve this issue. This all relates to standard DVD upscaled to these resolutions.

Made my decision. I will wait for next gen dvd players that will support blu-ray disc, if that wins the dvd media war against toshiba.

I have no preference between these two formats, they both support large capacity, though blu-ray stands out more as it supports i think upto 50Gb (from the top of my head). I am sure both companies know what they are doing for the best of consumers.
