Well I am one of the unfortunates that forked out peanuts ($60) to buy the Digitrex gk-4000 and all I can say is Digitrex the company sucks! They really don't care!!

There will be NO GK-4000 firmware updates unless a third party decides to do it. There arn't enough units out there to warrant it, so don't hold your breath.

Okay ... now the steam has gone :dD The GK-4000 isn't that bad, at $50.00 + on ebay or $70.00 + in store you could do worse. Its regular DVD abilities are excellent and there are alot of setup options rivalling players 3 times more expensive BUT, and this is the let down, the mpeg4 support is lacking in that any avi with a "packed bitstream" will be jerky or in some cases not play at all. There is something that can be done about this:

Download and run mpeg4modifier : http://www.moitah.net/

newbies >>ignore everything except the bitstream part of mpeg4modifier

If it says that the bitstream is packed then click unpack then save the file to "where ever". This process takes about a minute on my machine for a 350MB avi file and it doesn't effect the file size (don't ask me why?? )

You will find that the avi will run VERY smoothly on the gk-4000 after this process. I do this now even to avi's that work ok as it ALWAYS results in better playback. (video quality will remain the same)

I believe this process also improves playback with other mpeg4 (divx) players

If you find a file still won't work then:
Download and run Gspot http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

Compare the file that won't work to a file that will by looking at the Gspot windows for each. You may find a program that was used to encode the file is different (I had this problem once, but only 1 program so far caused a problem) or another setting may be unusual in which case use a conversion program like winavi that will allow conversion avi to avi and convert it to an avi using divx or xvid types. This process usually "converts out" whatever is causing a problem.

I hope this helps!!
