Dear All,

I've recently been given an old pager, one where I can change the
capcodes/frequencies on the unit. Unfortunately I don't have the money
to sign up to a paging service, but was wondering whether you could
suggest any frequencies and capcodes to receive free mail drop content
(such as weather and news) and also to monitor emergency services
paging (if permitted!).

Thanks in advance for any assistance. If possible, please CC replies to
my e-mail address below.

if you have a scanner
get the "PDW" program
decode some massages with it and get the info from the program

Hi Kev,

I've got a scanner, but not a male-to-male audio cable at the moment.
Can anyone provide the frequencies/codes in the meantime, e-mailing me
off-group if preferred?

freq range is between 148Mhz and 150Mhz in 12.5KHz steps

Kev,

But I'd need to know the capcodes too, yeah?

Thanks.

Leigh,

PDW the program simply monitors the data on the pager frequency. Rather
than having any capcodes you usually start out with no capcodes. The
program decodes everything going across the data channel and then you start
to build your database of capcodes.

Pick the capcodes you like, on the frequency you want then go off and get
them put in your pager.

Dear Brian,

Thanks for the info. But in my case, I don't have a scanner connected
to my computer, which is why I want the capcodes to directly input into
the pager.

Any info on where I could find them?

You won't find them anywhere. These capcodes you want are not public
information. You can't just look them up on some government data base.
Your best bet, as has already been stated, is to set up PDW for a while
on your PC and capture some of your own cap codes.
Best way to do this is first find out what brand of pagers your
interested target uses. Say you are after fire brigade pagers. Find out
who they go through for their paging. If its someone like Link Paging,
then go to the ACA data base, and do a user search between 148Mhz -
150Mhz using your post code. This will give you all the pager
frequencies. You will see many are duplicated across a wide area by the
bigger companies, such as link.
Set up PDW on your PC ( Its only an audio cable from your scanner to
your sound card input) and run PDW for a few days. PDW can be set up to
filter out pages with code words, so add some codes words to the filter
( so if your after fire brigade pagers you would add words like
fire/structure/smoke ) and in no time you should have some cap codes to
add into your own pager.

Can anyone help me?

I have got the PDW program and have set it all up so that my scanner is running back into my sound card.

I am scanning FREQ. 146.6375 for Melbourne FIRE & SES however I am not having much luck.

Can someone tell me the configurations on PDW to get it all to work so that I can see calls & ALERTS from the CFA Brigades around the area.

Post replies to here PLS.

Readie. :-)

I think you will do better on 148.6375 as 146.6375 is in the Amateur band.

Thanks for your response, is there anything that I need to do on PDW as for I have been mucking around with it for about an hour and nothing has come through..

Do I have to setup the Interface Setup (TAB)
and the fields under OPTIONS - PROGRAM

sounds like a good program, I just wish it would work.

Hello Readie,

I iniciated a similar thread on aus.radio.scanner a month ago for much the
same reasons (trying to use PDW to scan 148.6375). I connected the scanner
via an audio cable direct to the microphone input on the PC sound card.
Having the volume at a third I adjusted the pc volume input from the bottom
and I was able to decode pleanty of messages. I found the process to be very
fiddly touching the antenna would upset the apple cart; Advise from the
group suggested a shielded cable would have produced better results. While a
couple of messages decoded on that frequency were CFA I saw only 1 SES type
message (if you find the frequency please let me know).

good luck

Phill
