the average speed is 50kmph what i think you meant to say was average velocity then it would be 0

very funny whizz...

maybe i should change the question to say that the first part of the journey was in a ford hire car and easily stayed at the speed limit of 60kmph. where as on the way he got a holden and it could only manage 40kmph!!!! hehe like that one warmo!

I agree, but the Ford was at maximum speed going forward, and the Holden was cruising in Reverse!

BTW, the average speed is 48kmh (about the average speed for a Ford on a freeway!)...

i agree with lex luther that the answer is 48,

heres another one (gotta try and remember how this goes)

I have a half cup of beer and a half cup of vodka.

I take a teaspoon of the beer and stir it in with the vodka. I take a teaspoon of this mixture and mix it back in with the beer.

Which of the two cups contains more of its original contents?

Who cares - both glasses are soon empty! ;)

I think I know, but will wait til some others have had a go...

There would be the same ammount of original content in each glass. (whatever vodka is missing from the vodka cup is matched by the same ammount of beer missing from the beer cup)

That's my guess!

well we know that the car couldnt be a ford because it was able to maintain 40km :p

lmao, well said whizz. h and you couldn't be more correct. :PI

thats pretty much right. its actually not the make up of the contents of the teaspoon.. its just the volume of the liquid.

thus if both cups say had 100mls in it to start with, they both end up with 100mls at the end of it. the mixture of vodka/beer has nothing to do with it.

sneeky huh :p

Warmo did you hear about those new fords that are out ?? they have hand warmers around the rear bumper bars

this is to keep your hands warm when you have to push back the car to the repair shop to get it fixed again
:D :D

actually just saw on the news too that these new fords can go 0-100km per hour in 2.2 seconds

when you push them off the edge of a cliff :p

rofl, your very funny whizz.

but as they say

"I'd rather be pushing my ford than driving a holden"

Lmao. They also added cup holders in the rear brake lights, just for that extra bit of luxury. :PI

Yer, those cup holders do come in handy. ;)

getting back to the puzzle
for those of you who need explanation on the answer it is as follows

ok so...
A to B is at 60kmph
B to A is at 40 kmph

let the distance between A and B = 60km (keep it simple stupid KISS)
(it will still work for any distance)

so therefore the time taken for,
A to B is 1 hour (60kmph)
B to A is 1.5hours (40 kmph)
got it?

therefore the average speed is distance divided by time (time in hours since speed in hours, same units)

= 120/2.5
=48
AND THERE IS THE ANSWER 48kmph!

but if we want to get technical if u pushed a car off a cliff after 2.2 seconds it would be travelling at approaxamatley 78kmps (ignoring wind resistance)

maths is fun :D:D:D:D

how long would it take to reach terminal velocity and what is that velocity.

Depends on the object area, air density and drag therefore it would be classed as undetermined....
