Several weeks ago I sent my ROWA of for repair, being without the unit was not a big problem as I had heard stories of poor service from Strathfield and went and bought another unit as backup. What has really got my goat is that they
1. replaced my unit with a badly knocked around and scratched to s***house unit
2 . the unit that had more problems than the one I sent in for repair.

I'm probably now going to have a fight on my hands because I picked the unit up a couple of weeks ago but only just decided to set it up for the kids this evening.

I need to know if anyone else has had this experience as I intend to get my money back for this unit as I believe Strathfield has a policy of warranty deception rather than warranty repair. (my friend waited 6 weeks for his unit only to be told they could not find any record of it, Being repaired or sent off for repair(fortunately he did) and several other people I know have had similar issues with 'lost' warranty claims).

Hey,

You should be able to ask for your money back or for a new unit because the unit was faulty and they have not reasonably supplied a new unit.

If you have any problems just contact consumer affairs and they can advise you of all your rights.

hope this helps a bit...

Even though you may feel there is some type of warranty deception policy in place (I'm sure it can feel like this at times :o ) I can assure you that this is not the way things are intended to happen, keep in mind that repairs are sent to the supplier in good faith that the right thing will be done, eg; repair your unit or replace with a new one, things can and will go wrong during the process, unfortunately it happens but just as you hadn't opened your repair until now and were not aware that you didn't get the correct treatment, the store wouldn't have opened it to know that it wasn't done correctly either. Even though it may seem like an uphill battle due to the delay in you finding this all out, it is trackable back through the repair numbers and serial numbers of the players. The branch that you have been dealing with has definately been having some issues, several staff have gone just recently, if your friends have been dealing with the same branch then I'm not surprised if they have also had issues, the customer service there has been lacking for a while, hopefully things will be sorted soon and they can get back on track. If you have any trouble getting things sorted feel free to PM me with some details and I can help you get things resolved to your satisfaction.

I don't know how the rest of you feel - but the salespeople at strathfield ALWAYS seem dodgy (to me anyway)..... either that or they seem to think they are the worlds greatest salesperson (I often feel like saying "hey if you were really that good would you still be working here?").

Easier said than done :)

Strathfield were the ones that took the chance onr mpeg4 players and I am sure that they played a big part in opening up the market in that regard. They are the BigW of electronic gear and dodgy as they may seem, even when I am p*ssed off with them I have to appreciate the fact that they have a beneficial effect on Canberra prices for domestic electronic equipment.

davidf is right, Strathfield usually come through with stuff at low prices before other stores, and whilst you may have had problems with Strathfield stores from time to time, I have to say that my experiences have been no worse than The Good Guys, Harvey Norman, Kmart, Big W or a bunch of other stores.
Sometimes it's the salesperson you end up with that reflects badly on the store.
Having said all that, the thread is getting a little off topic for a "divx" forum.
Davidf's original post was valid, as it was in regard to a problem getting his player sorted out, but no sense comes from sticking the boots in.
Strathfield have an option to contact them (bottom of this page http://www.strathfield.com/contactus.asp ), I have used it before, and they do take complaints seriously.
If you have specific issues with your player, feel free to post, but generalities don't really help.

I don,t find the sales people at Strathfield any different to anywhere else mainly just young punks trying to earn a buck..I like the fact Strathfield sells alternative brands at very good prices,,just think if they didn't we most likly find the major stores would still try to sell an average dvd player for $499.
Nah...Strathfield is COOL in my books

Hi

I agree that strathfield have precipitated low prices but they are not the only ones JB, WOW and all those junk shops (reject, $2, GoLo) have also played their part in driving down prices (and importing new and unusual brand names).

It may also just be the 3 strathfiled shops I have visited ... I am pretty sure there are a lot more than 3 of them.

I've no idea why but every time I walk into a Strathfield store I think of the SBS show "Pizza" (http://www20.sbs.com.au/pizza/).

WOW is a spin off from strathfield. What i mean is i think that the people who own wow use to be involved with strathfield. So in a way strathfield is the leader in bringing down prices.

Not quite so. Strathfiled bought out Brisbane Car Sound over 10 years ago. The ex-owners of BCS then gone into a different type of business. Later they set up WOW sight and sound.
