View Full Version : living in a culdesac question
those like me who live in a culdesac , ie streat that has
has the bit were u turn around and come back the way u came
anyway, mine is fairly busy and with holidays sometimes have kids riding
bikes
or running around , so Ive made a mental note to reverse the car back into
my garage
so I can see if theres any one around instead of backing out,
any one else do this?

I live in the same situation, and NO!
I have a camera/video screen to see behind the Falcon.
Other cars not required, good vision.

I dont live in a culdesac but reverse in anyway.
Easier to get out with the wall on the passenger side in the garage and
my driveway is a prick to reverse out of.
I also 95% of the time reverse into a car space too, only really if I
dont want to hold someone else up that I dont.
Personal pref I guess.

Mine's more likely to have old people walking pets.

I'll generally always reverse into a car parking space, however
my 4x4 pickup won't fit tail end into my garage, the one next to
it, it does. This is because there is a slope that becomes level
in the outermost last 3rd of the garage. If I reversed in, the cab
roof would hit the top of the door. As it is just clears by 10 or 15mm,
leaving 40cm or so above the top of the tailgate. I'd expect a double
cab, wagon, or canopy would not fit front in either.
Being a 4x4, I believe the correct ettiquite is to watch the
mirrors on both sides until the person on the sidewalk is
exactly behind, then floor it in reverse ;-)
No, actually I take it very slowly reversing out, driving in,
OTOH. Good point though - it would be a total blind spot b/c
of the 50cm long, and steep slope down to the sidewalk.

I've tried either way but the kids are too quick for the old patrol.

No I couldn't be fucked. They shouldn't be on the road in the first place.
If they happen to come into the path of my reversing car then too bad for
them. They wont be riding a bike again with no legs.

bloody chook food. You need protein in the morning, and lots of it. I make a
nod to chook food by having some bread with it, occasionally it is
wholemeal.

YEAH! bloody little vermin. Only way for them to learn.

Can't say that I've ever seen a bicycle with legs. I've seen them with
wheels, but never with legs.

No, I have a large 4WD with steel bumpers front & rear, so if I back
into something the vehicle won't get damaged.
So no need for any real care on my part.

Not really. Any area outside the bumper is as risk. It's also not
good karma to leave dents in other people or their property. In
this regard the same care is applied as reversing a car.
The only thing it would give you, though certainly not required,
is being able to back right up to a brick wall or steel rail
structure.
