Details on : http://www.divx.com/
Sample files (BitTorrent and legal)
http://trailers.divx.com/torrents/LastManStanding.divx.torrent

(you'll need a BT client to get the real files, these are links ot the torrent only)
Tested on Targa DP-5100x and Pioneer 470/575 and all features working perfectly ! :D
The Targa DP-5100x being near identical to the LG 8900P I'm sure someone with the LG can cofirm it all works. If you run the Targe firmware then it will for sure.
Multiple soundtracks, multiple subtracks in a single divx container.
ok, so are the multiple audio / sub tracks, xtag and menu feature of the .divx container handled by the Targa / Pioneer player?

I've tried their sample files on some non certified players and the multi language and multi subtitle tracks all worked perfectly, certainly looks like a step in the right direction.

what about zensonic 330... ? someone trying. and Z500
Revelations (note: only played about 3-5 minutes on the players)-
Rowa RDVD104 (divx certified?) -
Picture bad (weird blue lines across) - locking up a little
Subtitle selection (1/1 and off) works
Multiple audio works (2)
No chapter points
Zensonic Z330
Picture good (slow to start the file)
subtitle selection works
multiple audio does not (as with other avi files)
No chapter points
XMS888
Picture good (also slow to start)
subtitle edit it switches between subtitle off and 1/1, but when it gets to the first subtitle the screen goes crazy (like static on analog TV) - ok if subtitles are switched off before it tries to display them
multiple audio tracks work (2)
no chapter points
fast forward seems to freeze it
(then I accidentally switched the power off/on fast, and the player looks dead, will have to wait and see if it revives :( )
edit: It's alive again now, just wanted to be off for about 10 minutes
OMNI DX-4200
Picture Good (slow to start)
No subtitle
multiple audio tracks (3)
no chapter points
fast forward works
Zensonic Z300
Picture Good (slow to start)
Subtitle - no
multiple audio tracks - No
chapter points - No
fast forward - Yes, but locks up easily
XMS989
Picture Good (slow to start, little jerky, stops / starts, lip sync issues)
Subtitle - No, lists 1/1 and off, but displays nothing
multiple audio tracks - Yes, 3
chapter points - No
fast forward - Yes, but locks up easily
BSPlayer (PC) (using non divx6 decoder)
Picture Good
Subtitle No
Multiple audio tracks - yes 3
chapter points - no
fast forward - yes
Divx6 Player
Very fancy start up
DVD like menus
chapters - yes
subtitles - yes
fast forward - yes
Multiple audio - yes , 3
Also, I left the XMS888 running, and after about 7 minutes the file froze.
Will try again, but I would say that a full play through would have to be run on each player to see how well they handled it.

Might be worth trying the 410mb full length version of revelation to see how well the players handle it.
Yeah, I'm running the full version.
Z330 has just finished running all the way through,
XMS888 is random, sometimes plays 3mins, 7mins, 5mins
will let the Omni try now.
Omni plays some minutes, a/v sync issues start occuring, then picture lock ups occur, and it stops then starts, plays for a while, stops and starts again.

Looks like the Z330 can do it as well, not quite as bad as the Omni and the 989, but definitley has stop/start issues as well.

Existing DivX Certified DVD players will be able to play the primary video and audio track of a DivX 6 file, but an upgrade will be required to take advantage of the interactive menues and chapter points, DivX spokesperson Tom Huntington told BetaNews.
"Firmware upgrades that enable devices to support the full DivX Media Format will be available eventually from some of our partners," Huntington said, "and DivX Certified devices that natively support all the DivX Media Format features are expected to hit the market early next year, with a new logo that clearly identifies each device."
By the looks of things many certified players will only offer basic playback pending firmware updates and even then there is some level of questionability going by the above statement, sounds more like something that will not see full functionaily until the next chipsets arrive from vendors.

Until such time as divx optimise their encoder and make it at least half as fast as xvid its all a waste of time, I want an encoder that produces quality at a reasonable frame rate, the fact that divx is spending time dressing up their tools instead of making them work speaks heaps about the internal capabilities of the divx team.

Not too many people happy about their new tools either it would seem (according to posts on their own forums).
As yet the normal person can't get a hold of the tools that make the fancy menus etc.
DR DivX has been killed off in favor of a 'simple' encoder, which a lot of people are finding too simplistic (no ability to manipulate the encoding bitrates / resolutions manually etc), with calls by many of the DivX faithful for the Dr to be revived.

Interesting that they also mention the beta of their new encoder which is meant to be twice as quick as this new one, perhaps they predicted they would start copping flack already

You mean the Dual Core optimised one? Make sense if the old version was only using one core properly then it would be half as slow.

the beta encoder.. called hellium codec........... is much faster depend on CPU. It uses HT, dual core, intel chips, Athlon and X64 setting.

One big advantage xvid now has over divx is that you can do a higher quality 2 pass encode faster than the divx single pass unviewable encode.
SO to all the hardware manufacturer's don't worry about divx, give us, qpel, 3 point motion compensation and matroska support.
Lets see some xvid certified logo action :).

davidf, just couldnt resist to clear a few thing.
dont want to start arguement...!!! but divx can also can be encoded with 2 pass, 3pass......nth pass (as many times as you like). Hardware manufacture is WORRY about divx because it has digital right managment DRM, and big companies want to protect their intellectual right. Hence, hardware will support divx, games, online-movies will be released in divx format. Xvid and Divx are both mpeg-4 compliant.

I think the advantage of DivX from a hardware partners point of view is that they actually have some fixed parameters to work in, they also have a very detailed test procedure (anyone that has seen the DivX certification test kit will know what I am refering to) XviD may be a superior format from the end users perspective but from a hardware point of view there is no way of knowing where XviD is going or how to accomodate it, in that respect it's a nightmare.
