avoid getting caught!
<I>When the cops catch up with master car thief, Maindrain Pace, he has no choice but to rock them through a full-throttle chase, wrecking five cities making his escape.
Behind the wheel of souped up Ford Mustang Mach 1 "Eleanor", Gone In 60 Seconds is raw filmmaking at its best, with spectacular stunts and unstoppable action.
It slams you on a rocket ride you'll never forget.</i>
<B>Let the wrecking begin!</b>
<i>"The reason it has gained such a cult following is its 40-minute climactic car chase....
it's a jaw dropping sequence filmed with stunning realism."</i>- Star Tribune.
<center><h3><b>Audio/Visual….</b></H3></center>
Gone In 60 Seconds (Original) is shown in full screen.
The movie has a real 70's look to it with the cars, fashions etc but thankfully the quality of the transfer is a lot better than expected.
The picture is mostly clean and doesn't suffer from any real noticeable marks or blemishes, but some people may notice a "flyscreen" effect at the 2:06 mark of the movie, but this is only there for a few seconds and the remainder of the movie is mostly fine and of a good quality.
Colours and slightly dull and do show the age of the movie at times, but this is very acceptable and actually add to the original 70's look of the movie.
Blacks and darker shades can be a slight problem with some night scenes and there was one close up of two people in a car at night where you couldn't recognise their faces in the dark and dull shading.
Camera work can be slightly dodgy at times with slight focus problems, but this is rare and as said earlier, it just adds to the 70's look of the film.
The video overall was a lot better than expected and would have to be described as mostly clean and impressive for a film of this age and budget.
Audio is in Dolby Digital 2.0 surround.
The audio was also better than expected. It's pretty much focused at the front of the room and the sub occasionally provided some low level sound with the 70's music track and cars.
Speech is easy to understand, but does suffer a couple of times and I assume this was because of low budget equipment used back then. It's good overall though.
The rears make their presence known in scenes such as ones involving the cars. There's some occasional directional sound and panning with the speakers, as in one scene on a bridge where a truck horn blasts from the front and moves to the rears to echo behind you.
Not a bad sound track at all.
<CENTER><H3><B>Extra features…..</b></CENTER></H3>
<LI><U><I><b>Never before seen footage</B></i></U> - Various clips shown as they were filmed and very roughly cut together in no particular order. This is raw footage and has a purple tinge to it at times and in some cases there is no audio at all. The footage is as follows.....
INSIDE MUSTANG LOCATION SHOT (No Audio): Raw footage that includes different takes of footage filmed from inside the Mustang and has no audio.
ROADBLOCK & CHASE (No Audio): Raw footage again with no audio at all.
JILL & ACCIDENT SCENE: Raw footage outside LAX where the guys are looking to steal the car called "Jill", followed by random raw footage of an accident scene from the movie.
<LI><U><I><b>Trailers</i></u></B> - Trailers 1,2 & 3 are pretty similar versions and are modern trailers for the new remastered version of this cool movie.
ORIGINAL TRAILER is low quality in sound and vision and in full frame.
The JUNKMAN TRAILER boasts 150 cars destroyed and claims to be the chase thriller of the 80's.
<LI><u><b><I>"Behind the scenes" Photo Gallery</i></B></U> - This is impressive. Click on any of 25 pictures on the menu screen and each one will take you to a slide show of still shots from that part of the movie set to music.
<LI><U><I><b>Interviews</I></B></u> - 5 entertaining interviews here.....
PARNELLI JONES - Talks about "Toby", his movie and tells how his "Bronco" was used in the movie. It features Jim Dilmarter talking about the Bronco and knowing "Toby".
JIM DILMARTER - Same footage from above where he talks about the Bronco and meeting "Toby".
Also has Parnelli Jones speaking again.
LEE IACOCCA - This famous ex Ford/Chrysler big boss talks to the widow of H.B "Toby" Halicki about coming up with the name for the "Mustang" car and then creating and releasing it. He also talks about fast cars and the movie itself.
J.C. AGAJANIAN JR - tells a couple of stories about "Toby" got to use his dad and his car in the movie as well as his own role in the movie at the Road Block scene. Not a bad story actually.
BOBBY ORE - Who specialises in Stunt Driving, talks about the subject as well as driving "Eleanor" today. Has recent footage of him "burning rubber" and driving the car with the widow as a passenger.
<center><h3><B>Overall…..</b></center></h3>
This is the original and the best version of Gone In 60 Seconds.
The movie is introduced by the widow of H.B."Toby" Halicki who explains that her husband who was known as "The Car Crash King" wanted to make this movie so he took on the roles of Director, Producer, Writer, Star and financed and originally distributed it himself. Many of the cars in the movie were even his own. She tells of him having a very low budget and getting friends to help and asking for favours to make it. The movie is full of friends and real police play police, firemen play firemen, paramedics play themselves and even the Mayor played himself. The pedestrians running for their lives were real pedestrians! At one point you'll see him spin out of control and hit a light pole at high speed.
This was an accident and he did get hut, but he still went on.
This is one fun movie and that has a thrilling 40 minute car chase and will keep you entertained til the very last seconds of the movie.
In my opinion, this DVD leaves the modern version behind in its dust!
MAGNA PACIFIC have released another quality DVD.
This DVD contains a fun movie that's very entertaining and has an awesome 40 minute car chase that wrecks 93 cars in the process.
This DVD also has plenty of extra features that are all interesting, entertaining and well worth a look.
Try and hold out til the end of the credits as you'll get to see a Sydney version of the Dolby City Trailer made by DVDtech who authored the DVD.
This is the same one that you'll see on the Dungeons and Dragons DVD which is also a quality "extra features loaded" release by MAGNA PACIFIC.
