Looking to hook up speakers throughout the house to a central Amp. The PC
will be connected through here to pipe MP3s to different sets of speakers.
What I'm after is a 1 in, 4 out type mixer that I can adjust levels and mute
each
output so if the party's outside I can switcht he sound out there, and if in
inside the music goes there.
Anyone know of such a beast? I'm they're out just not sure what to ask for
or what to look out for.

Do you want one amplifier to drive all speakers, or separate amplfiers for
each zone? Also stereo or mono?

Yeah one amp.
I saw a 4 way thing at the shop but it only had buttons to turn different
speakers on and off. I'd like to alter volumes too if possible.
does this require seperate amps or can volume be controlled via the speaker
outputs?

One stereo amp will allow you to control a number of stereo speaker feeds,
depending on the impedance of the speaker connections and the drive
capability of the amp.
One place to look would be www.jaycar.com.au.
Search for attenuator
There are lots of other sites that would have similar.
