View Full Version : component cable termination
hiya ppl
i have run my component cable and now just need the plugs to terminate both
ends...
was wondering if anyone suggested where to get them from (perhaps over the
net) and what would be the best as i prefer to pay more for better quality
many thanks

Apologies if I have missed a previous thread that answers this but... What kind of cable (brand and model) have you used - and have you looked into the exact connectors you will need at all? Presumably it's some sort of coax - do you have access to the crimp tool you will need to attach the connectors, or were you planning on soldering?
i was planning on soldering, the cable from the top of my head is a belkin
component cable of which i bought from a supllier...i bought like 25 metres
for future use

Best connectors for 75ohm component video cable are:
1st - BNC crimp connectors (unfortunatly most equipment only supports
RCA)
2nd - RCA crimp connectors (ie. Canare)
Last - soldered RCA connectors (impedance missmatch may present
problems in some applications)
Cheers

And silver solder where possible.

The quality of the soldering isn't so much the issue here. The
impedance missmatch between the nominal impedance of a soldered RCA
connector (due to its physical design) and the 75ohm composite video
cable will cause reflections in the cable and make the cable useless
for high frequency applications - despite how good/bad the soldering
is. Canare and ADC supply RCA connectors that are at least closer to
the 75ohm impedance than the generic RCA connectors used for audio.

No argument from me!

Sorry, I should have lead the first sentence with "Please note" - I
just wanted to clarify that the main issue here isn't the quality of
the solder or crimp but the impedance characteristics of the connector.
